We did good I got first for catch and release with a 1.2 bream. And my girlfriend got second with a 900 gram bream both swam of strong. Was a bit of a shock to see the lack of fish caught this year was hard work getting any whiting wondering weather the drdgeing is to blame

well done biggerfish and
well done biggerfish and gf.but a winning bream at 1.2 is not that big compared to years ago where anything that size i would have let go.i think in general the overall size of the black bream has got smaller due to contaminants in the water and too many u/size fish being taken over the years. used to get 2kg plus bream all the time and now they are rare to see

i reckon too many oversize
i reckon too many oversize fish being taken. I think bream sizes shouldnt be only minimum allowed but maximum.

i agree with u on that chan
i agree with u on that chan thats why every year we never keep any bream we always put them in the esky with an airaitor and take them in for catch and release. The 1.2 kilo fish would have been at least 20 years old and its not that hard to take a bit of time to keep it alive so it can live another day. who knows maybe it will find its way back to where i got him this year and i can catch him next year. I did loose a few bigger ones that hooked up on the live baits but the bigger ones are hard to pull out of the snags.

As said in another post
I went with my workmate and only got two bream to Andrews 12-15, Andrew caught a 38cm Blackie and released him as he didnt think it would be a winner. I had the live bait tank and aerator with us too. I reckon we might have come close to heaviest bream, but we wouldnt have come close to your most meritous release biggerfish. Top effort!

taking only oversize fish as
taking only oversize fish as the legal limit is gay, they dont have much chance in getting bigger. Taking smaller only gives more chance for the others not caught to grow. Also when born, theres more quantity of the small size with each hatch than larger ones around. Picking smaller and not touching larger also will automatically make them release more as small ones dont make much of a plate for one. Not only that, as you target smaller, you use smaller hooks and majority would be blowies. Targeting large bream with big hooks, rarely catch blowies and usually only thing to take is big bream, tarwhine, flatties. So i reckon, this would be better for the bream population.
