Sunday Jiggin report

Headed out with bouttime today as he was kind enough to take a few forum members out. Accompanied by RobC and Madfisher we headed out to do some jigging, and jiggin we did!

Heaps out there, nothing overly huge around the 15-25kg mark at a guess and rob landed one around 30kg. Was alot of fat fish out there and some mysterious leader busting species too which claimed a few jigs. Trolled for those supposed mackies aswel for an hour or 2 to no avail. Oh and mark(madfisher) managed a decent skippy on baits.

Just got home, time to start drinkin so ill post pics tomorow arvo if none of the others post any tonight.

cheers to bouttime for a great day!

We had a cruisy day and took it easy, another excuse was the lack of suitable sounder....Navman 4200 with fish icons cant really find fish.....

Has anyone actually eaten

Mon, 2007-01-01 09:13

Has anyone actually eaten these samson fish? Dont listen to the rumours thay taste ok i kept one of tapouts smaller ones. As mine where all way to big, LOL, crap we went through some jigz ill tell yaz 100pound braided snap of i all most went over the side backwards after wacking my self in the face with the dam rod ther is some power in a 100pound braid shock load to break that Lotsa freyed trace wire, was a great day (TRY SMOKEN SAMSON ITS GOOD TUKER) even just fry it with salt youll be surprise. HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HAPPY FISHIN.
For best eating fish keep em under 18kgs and remember one is more than enough for your family, and the neighbours(thay dont freeze that good)

Mon, 2007-01-01 16:20

Feral, its not really far at all as Tapout has mentioned. Give it a try and there's always plenty of people willing to be your deckie as some of us dont own boats but are keen jiggers.....hint hint.

Its important to handle the

Mon, 2007-01-01 20:10

Its important to handle the sambo's with as much care as possible. Start by squashing the barb on the hook with plyers, it is less obrupt on the fish when removing the hook. (either bait hooks or gigs)
Keep the line tension up and you do not need the barb, always remove the barb for catch and release.
Make sure you put the fish on the deck on a wet towel (with sea water) to keep the natural "slime" on the fishes skin for its rehabilitation - do not drop it on the deck - place it as gently as possible.

As we all know if you are putting a fish back in the ocean do not touch the fishes gills, cradle the fish with your arms. Get your photos and have the fish back in less than 5 minutes. And this fish hopefully should be ok once back in the water.

I love my fishing and love to respect the ocean, CHEERS!

one or two did, but the stella did make short work of them heh. And they werent all pups, it was about 50-50. Only one floater(which was the biggest fish of the day) and we managed to revive him by swimming him behind the boat for a few minutes and he kicked off. Was a great day out there, lookin forward to goin again sometime soon.
