Shimano Thunnus reel

looking for opinions on the Shimano Thunnus ci4 6000 reel. Thinking of purchasing one of these reels predominately for land based live baiting. Looking forward to your opinions on these reels. Thanks in advance.

Awesome Reels

I have a Thunnus 12000 which I match with an Assassin rod. This is as best a combination I've used for beach work.

Depending upon what you are chasing, I'd consider going up to the 8000 or 12000, for no other reason than line capacity.

 I have an 8000 which I pair

I have an 8000 which I pair with a variety of rods.  I ordered in a spare spool and so have found the reel to be extremely versatile. It has landed big sambos and snapper for me.  If you're planning on live baiting consider the 12000 which I believe has an aluminium reinforced rotor which will flex far less than the 6000 on XXL larger species which I suspect you will encounter when live baiting.

I highly recommend the Thunnus one of my favourite reels.

thunnus is a good reel for the bait runner

if u are going to use the bait runner alot then yes a thunnus is great if ur not going to use it much then go something different what fish are you targeting with it? and depending on what braid you are using will depend on what size reel you buy because u can fit 300m of 60lb pe 3 shimano ocea on a shimano 6000 reel but other braids you might have some problems tryna fit 300m of pe 3 on the spool but with the thunnus i personally wouldnt go the 12000 as it is a really big reel the 8000 is a better size but all in all the reel is good if you use the bait runner function alot but if you dont there is plenty of other reels out there in that price range which are built alot stronger then the thunnus also to save some dollars why not have a look at the shimano bait runner reel its the black and gold one half the price of the thunnus and still does the same job. hope this helps also i own a thunnus and have only every used it in the swan river waiting for mullas but when im live baiting for pinkys or mullas of the stones i use a saragosa with the drag set pretty tight with some big circle hooks that way the fish hooks it self.

 Thanks for your input. Yes

Thanks for your input. Yes l'm thinking the 8000 is probably the pick for what l'm looking at chasing. Already have a saragosa 25000 for heavyweight work matched to the Daiwa shore game rod released earlier this year. The Thunnus would be used more for chasing mullaway (yeh l'm from Victoria) snapper, gummy sharks, etc. again appreciate your input.cheers.
