theres a spot in cockburn sound where i fish off the jetski, saw 3, 3-4ft bull sharks cruising in less than a meter of water in 2 sessions last week. Ive got some footage on my camera of a mate casting at them using a bit of tailor fillet, using 8lb mono on a graphite bream rod hehe! Probably not the big ones you's are after though.. Also saw a 2.5m bronzie cruise along the rocks down at dawesville last week and dad said he saw another 2 days before.
Any chance of a hint of the location (N or S) I have just started to target sharks this year but have'nt had any luck & what sort of rig were you using ? & anyone one else out there that could offer some advice would be greatly appreciated (I fish 99% Hillarys & north shore based).
Hey guys not sure if you guys have a boat or not but been out snapper fishing between the islands for snapper this week but have been pestered by heaps sharks, only fishing 10kg line but had 250mtrs of line taken off me under full drag, twice in no more than 30 seconds some big bitties chasing the snapper
as Jakeu420 said ballooning live or dead herring is a good place to start, or even just cast them out.... 1m of steel is fine for little guys but a heavy mono leader on top of that is probably a good idea cuz the tail hitting your mainline will bust you off even on little 4-5 foot sharks.
carefull mate, shark fishing is addictive Always going bigger and bigger.... before you know it half the gear you need you cant even get in Perth, sometimes not even in Aus. End up making grapnel sinkers, wind on leaders, chasing down chum and fresh bait, spending more time getting ready to go fishing than actually fishing lol
The tiger at woodies was never landed as it came round the front left of the jetty and into the light it looked pretty angry and was heading under the jetty, i tried to sink the gaff in around its mouth but it just bounced off its rough skin as soon as it felt that yeah cya later,
since that a shark biting through 300pound wire and another that was in a stale m8 for about 30 minutes and the hooks pulled, its funny though usually get the small guys like bronzies blacks and hammers but none around hmmmmm but i promise youl see a few big ones landed in the weeks too come...
hahah ease up brother, only jokin'! and to answer your second question, id be posting up some of the bream i caught today, but i cant get the pic off my phone lol.
suprised that with all these shark sitings that the tiger shark that i caught on sunday 7ft still pretty small but manageable along with a smaller specimen that was caught hadnt been mentioned
they only mention as little as 1-2% of the sharks in the area haha. had an argument with someone a couple weeks ago at the beach. he was sayin that there are no sharks here! (hillaries dog beach)! i just had to laugh, seeing as ive caught them and seen them areound there and up and down the marina hahaha.
Don't knock the rats, they're the better eating sizes except with wobbies.
The best times are from around 8.00pm through to 0400am , big baits that must be fresh, frozen blood in the bait loses its effectiveness for some reason.
yea but the rats arent much fun.... dont get me wrong enjoy them for a feed now and then. mainly in it for the fun though, not much else around here that can pull line from the beach.
You can always take a gamble, expect smaller sharks and go for lighter gear to give the fight you want or risk losing a big one because of the lighter gear. Your choice!!
got one last night but again just a little guy, took a 45cm whole tailor. the bloody shark would only have been about a metre long... :-/ Only managed to get one bait out as I couldnt get my sinker to set behind a sand bar without wading fairly deep and I wasnt keen on that after dark so called it quits after the little guy.
Slide baiting, cast out grapnel let it set, attach slide, let it slide as far as possible above water, give your rods some jerks for around 3-5mins depending on your distance and current, its doesnt look to good but it works ahaha

Gah, after about 30 hours of ballooning at a certain spot I've seen 2 sharks, had one live bait bitten in half and only had one run but no hook up.
I'm starting to worry that the sharks here have spent too long reading fishwrecked and have all turned in to vegetarian bunny hugging hippies.
Nice fish pudzz.

You can also use this 2 rod
You can also use this 2 rod method, cause a short rod just makes the fight more comfortable to play fish.
