seriously looking at a minn kota
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2024-04-08 19:47
Sandy and I have been talking about getting a minn kota. Problem is where to mount it and what size is needed. I can see one location that could be possible due to the front of the swifty being an odd shape. I have figured out a spot without having to remove the bough rail. It would be the space between the start of the rail and the first upright. Of course a mounting bracket and reinforcement on and under the bough deck. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcomed.

They are great
I have an 80lb minn kota on my tinny and I have the foot controls to steer it and change speed you can get them with a gps lock function mine came out before they had that but if you get the speed right with tide and wind you can sort of stay on station pretty well, at least long enough to pull a few fish in before the grey coats turn up.
Ohh yeah it has a big bastard of a mount on the bow so it just got screwed on and all is well.
My outboard shat itself so I am thinking of just selling it with the minn kota as the power source as it can get up and go when you use full throttle.

Mounting
You can buy a 3 point mount stainless mounting plate for the electrics although I'm not sure as to where you get them from. Also ch smith marine do what looks to be a good reasonably high thrust motor that has all the fruit and is a fair bit cheaper than minn kota
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !

Minn Kota
You will need the ULTERA Minn Kota which is auto about 85 cm shaft as it looks like you can't access the bow to manually engage it. But you will have nothing but trouble with the belt either breaking or other problems. Mate had one he ended up getting rid of it. He bought the latest Yamaha with the Minn Kota built part of the motor VERY expensive so unless you can manually engage it I would say forget it I've had a riptide Minn Kota for 11years. Best thing I've ever put on my boat
