Seeking advice on baitcasters
Hi all Im chasing some info/ advice on which baitcaster to buy...
It will be used mainly for shallowish water tasks ranging from pinks/norries etc, stopping jacks in the creeks and also the heavier duty task of stopping the odd barra or two. It will be loaded with 20-30lb line and put on a Nitro Dominator 6-8kg stick Im looking for something slim profile, the Calcutta etc is a bit too heavy and don’t think I really need the line capacity for what Ill be using it for
Have had a look at
-Curado CU00E (the green meanie): a good workhorse, but was looking for something a bit smoother. Has the biggest line capacity
-Calais ASV: Ive heard from the barra boys that while these are really smooth, they tend to get the creeks and grinds after a few decent fish, even if theyre maintained well, so this might be an issue?
-Abu toro winch: still pretty new i think, but have heard a few good things about the this and the other abus...?
anyone used them? Anyone got any advice for me or could recommend/review anything theyve used before?
thanks in advance!

Curado 300E7 is my weapon of choice for what youve mentioned. Holds plenty of 20lb.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Daiwa Zillions are sweet. I
Daiwa Zillions are sweet. I run 2, but 30lb is not needed especially for a 6-8kg nitro. They are smooth as even after a few years of Barra, Jack and threadie abuse! I must say they sit well on the new LOX baitcaster.

Abu's
Have an Abu 6500 with 20lb braid on it, used for chucking chrome lures around the river mouth. Have got tailor, mackies, mulloway and even Koks island pinkies off the bottom with it . Casts a mile on a 6ft ugly stick and has a reasonable line capacity.
If its not big enough go up to an Abu 7000 that will handle everything you want to throw at it.

if you are going to live bait
for barra, consider getting a reel with a clicker/ratchet.
I have a daiwa Luna 300 and it does the job and I can cast with it and I'm a horrible baitcast caster. Didn't feel "bulky" to me and I have fairly small hands as well.

Unless you want bling bling
Go the Curado British racing Green Machine. I would but I have the older silver Curado on a Ian Miller barra stick. Cant cast much better than Huggy but at least I can a bit.
Never let me down and when feeling keen also use this a light bottom bouncing rig . Caught a 12kg mackie on it and apart from a "S*#t Im going to be spooled moment" it was awesome.
Cant compete with the bling market but a great reel and if it ever fails i will be getting the Green machine again.

There are so many good choices mentioned above and
out in the marketplace at the moment.
Shimano, Daiwa and Abu all have quality baitcasters.
Have you had much experience with baitcasters?
Your final choice may also depend on what sort of budget you have.
Have you had a look at this site.

Probably not the sexiest
Probably not the sexiest unit going around............. but I have had an ABU7000 for donkeys years and have it leaded with 25lb braid and it is a bloody good reel to use for all sorts of applications (casting, light trolling and bottom fishing)
