Sea trials Simrad evo2 7" touchscreen

Well finally I took the boat out to test out my new Simrad sounder. I have fitted a B175H 1KW chirp through hull tranny to this unit. At first the unit was confused in shallow water and giving me shit readings but once out into about  3or 4 metres it sorted its self out. One thing I did notice was alot of clutter on the screen I played with the gain but then lost alot of resolution on the screen. I have just read to adjust the TVG but I was only in 35 meters of water. I dialed in different fequencies 175hz-210hz and also left in the chirp mode (recommended) by some but still had a clutter problem and a clear deffinition of the bottom problem. I also run a 585 along side it and at present the 585 certainly has  better clarity and picture on it. The GPS side of it (fitted with a platnum +) card in it is very good. The screen shot function is very good also plus the scroll back and mark (GPS) or take a screen shot in the scroll back function. Any advice out there regarding the clutter problem would be apprecited. Thanks

 Any chance its interference

Any chance its interference from the motor or the other transducer? How’s it look with the motor in neutral and/or the other sounder turned off?

I am having the same problem

I am having the same problem with my NSS9 but only have the 600 watt transducer. I have nearly got it as best as I can but still shows clutter. I find if I am travelling at more then 6 knots I have to turn the gain and colour down and TVG up but under that I can crank it up to show good bottom. I also had the 585 and if i had the room on the dash would fit that as the sounder and run the Simrad as the GPS. I am still playing with transducer heights so will see how it goes. Something also to consider I have an Etec and notice when i start it it throws a heap on interference up on the screen and same when I take off. Dont know if this has something to do with the clutter also.

I was informed that the evo 2 could not handle a 1kw without a BSM unit. I went for a B75H tranny. Install next week so I'll let you know how mine goes.

BSM??

Fri, 2014-11-28 12:16

I still have clutter with the motor turned off. There is a noise reduction function on the unit and I have used it in the low and medium positions ,it does cut the interference from the 585 transmissions but still not a great picture. BSM what's that. Hopefully in deep water I can shift the picture down to only look at the bottom 15mtrs and get rid of the shit and water layers (tempretures) that are inbetween. I think these chirp tranny do pick up water layers. Yesterday going past cray pots 32mtrs of water the nevo certainly showed the rope going down to the pot and also the pot the 585 did not, but still a cluttery picture. Thanks for the feed back, more welcome. After outlaying big bucks for the 1KW tranny I am on a mission to get working as well as I have seen screen shots on the net!!!!! Thanks once again

I have just done all the research on the evo 2s and everyone I spoke to said if I want to run a 1kw chirp tranny I'll need a bsm2 or the new bsm3. Here is the link below.

Amazing,different information

Fri, 2014-11-28 15:17

Goodday D_ Doush. I have just tracked down alot of info regarding the 1KW tranny on the evo 2. At present there are 2 Aussie websites selling 1 KW trannys with there evo 2 on line. Keeoughsmarine.com.au Look at evo2 site and then go to chirp transducers and it states there clearly that a 1kw tranny is compatable with the evo 2. Another site cj smithmarine also sells the 1KW tranny with this unit as options alongside other extras. Also on the yank sites they too are using 1kw transducers. Any way, mine is installed and I hope I did not fuxxk up the transducer model. Thanks

Thanks mate for repley I will go into deeper water soon 300 mtrs plus and will tell tell the story. As I have been told chirping at at  deeper  depth is better. Rest ashore I will chace this down  and if it is shit, I will tell all. If any evo 2 users want to come and compare Nth or Sth of the river I welcone your imput. Thanks

I had an issue with my unit

I had an issue with my unit where it wasn't displaying the water temp.  I got in touch with navico thru the dealer here (campbells pro tackle) and they were very helpful.  turned out I needed to update the software and they stepped me through that process.
