Sea Rescue
Went out fishing friday morning for my last chance to catch a dhue before the cut off date as I'm heading to Bali with the family and when I get back its the day after the cut off.
It has an inboard mercruiser that I serviced 2 days prior to going out and ran it for half hour to make sure all was good. It was running like a dream as normal and the motor has been trouble free for the 880nm travelled since I have owned the boat.
I was heading out when trouble hit. One of the coolant hoses blew and I shut her down to inspect. I carry tools and some parts with me on the boat but not a coolant hose.
For the first time ever I had to get hold of base to get the Busselton sea rescue boat to come out and tow me in. I was inpressed with the way they handle situations like this with the questions asked and the way they responded. I was on ancor and in no danger but they still were out there in no time at all considering that they were called out from home, organised the boat and in the conditions of the ocean the time to get to me. I was very impressed at the service for all us boaties and im not sure if anyone has been in a situation that they have needed to use the Sea Rescue, but I'm very glad that they are there just in case.
Thanks to all Sea Recue volenteers on this site and yes it has inspired me to volenteer here in Busselton.

Yes it is good to know that there are people waiting to give you a hand if things go all wrong. We have not had to radio for help yet but we always log on and off with Fremantle Sea Rescue. We have had a few close calls with dirty fuel that blocked the carby (in board Mercruiser too) but we have managed to get back to the ramp.
We have also participated in the combined Cockburn, Fremantle and Whitfords Sea Rescue boat saftey convoy to Rottnest. We had an excellent day learning how to attempt the bays, met some other participants and Sea Rescue Volunteers. The kids had a ride in R100 and came home in some conditions that we would not normally attempt. It was good to know what the boat could do, and the crew survived.

Lucky to have them giving up time to keep watch, if you pick up a few fish it makes their day to drop off a nice fillet or 2 with a thankyou before you drive off. Also joining up as an associate member doesnt cost much but helps add funds that could help to save your life.
