length/weight table

Mon, 2010-11-22 14:35

Samson Fish Length Weight Table
Fork Length (mm) Weight (kg)
900    9.3
950   10.9
1,00  12.6
1,05  14.6
1,10  16.7
1,15  18.9
1,20  21.4
1,25  24.1
1,30  27.1
1,35  30.2
1,40  33.5
1,45  37.1
1,50  40.9

The really technically-minded can use this formula:
Weight (kg) = 0.0000000252 x (Forklength (mm))2.9

remember fork length is the inside of the tailfork, not the tips

see the info sheet here  www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/op/op043/fop043.pdf

We used the same chart that fishnut put up. We measured the smaller Sambo before we released him (125 cm) so around 24 kg using the scale, the larger one was over 25 cm longer (+150 cm), so +40 kg.....Cliff really struggled to lift the big Sambo up for the photo, but could easily lift my young bloke up who straightened out on the ground as a psuedo Sambo once we got home when we were trying to estimate weights......he weights a bit over 50 kg, but isnt slimy......at least not yet......

Totally agree, very unreliable but short of hanging the Sambo by a set of scales and killing it, which none of us want to do, what else can ya do....maybe length is the best measurement, not estimated weight, as I would hate to see people killing fish just to prove a point??
