Rotto Crays

Could have bagged out our 12 in 1 dive the other day but every cray was full of berries. Tried a couple of different spots, 20m and 16m same story everywhere. Certainly a nice way to spend a hot morning though swimming around under the water. Going to hit the 3 mile tomorrow and see whats about.

Same story last week

Tue, 2011-01-11 21:31

We dived 20m and 14m on a lump near roe reef last week, exact same every single cray approx 10 or so was a big female in berry.

Had some luck though on the last dive of the week found a boys club in 8m off city of york bay not a single female around and bagged out.

Got this bad boy too for a photo and released.

Hopfully Good

Signs for the future with this apparantly low puerulus count,

I have only been diving for six years but amazenly this is the first time / season for me to come across crays in sepotose or berrie.

Averaging two in berry per dive.

its happened before (forgot what year), incredibly low peurelis recruitment recorded, turned out to be a bumper season everywere. the predicted season catch was about 40-50% lower than the actual catch.

Well

Wed, 2011-01-12 19:14

Well today we hit the back edge of the 3 mile for a bit of a look around. There were reasonable numbers of crays about but most of them were well and truly undersize. Managed 1 keeper out of 2 dives. Saw 1 that would have been no more than 15 cm long from tip to tail. Was a great day on/under the water though. Back to the ramp by 1pm then off to work for 3pm.
