rottnest spots

 Hey Everyone,

Im heading down to Rottnest in a couple of weeks with my mates. May i please have some advice on where to catch heaps of herring as thats what we will mainly be targeting. Also some tailor spots would be appreciated. Any information will be highly regarded. We have bikes so we can get anywhere.

Thanks

Catherine Bay for herring! We fish from the boat and with a little berley, you can watch them swim up to the hook..

For herring go to the end of the ferry jetty about 4pm

and claim the left side of it (casting north) Throw some berley out first a few times about 20m out. Use pollard in berley cages with bits of prawn on baitchaser rigs (no sinker) you will get sick of catching herring once the berley brings them around. Don't let it sink to the bottom lots of wrasse and other crap fish, slowly wind the rig in after it hits the water and the herring will be all over it (I get lots of double headers like this). For tailor as soon as it gets a little dark start baitcasting unweighted mulies straight off the end of the jetty (casting east) past the light on the water and slowly retrieve lots of tailor usually (but not always) you can also attach a light stick to top of mulie. cheers dave

For giggles we used to get light gear, or a fly rod, and chuck out tiny hooks with bread to catch buff bream. Those things are power houses!
