reel advice

just purchased a daiwa sensor surf of a fellow fishwrecked member !

the rod model is 20lb-40lb, 3-6oz cast weight and 11'6 Overhead. i was hoping to use this for swan river mulloway and snapper at north mole ect as well as the odd medium sized shark ....

origanally i was going to put a penn torque 200 on the rod but since they have gone off special i wont be purchasing one !

the range i am looking to spend is between 250 and $450. looking for something with a reasonable line compasity, the reel will have 30-50lb braid with mono topshot about 120m or so.

also i have had a look at the saltiga surfs and i do like them, but any other suggestions are good !

any suggestions would be sweet and greatly appreciated!

Penn torque 200 would have been a bad idea for casting. They do not have and casting breaks so you have to do it all with your thumb. Saltist black gold 40 for around the 300 mark or a torium 20 for about the same price. Both have centrifugal cast breaks and are very good reels, the next step up is the saltiga surf or new trinidadA. both around 450-500. Agree with diehard. No need to go to a bigger reel. The bigger the reel also the harder it is to cast.

I use both the Torium 20 and the Saltiga surf 30, both are good reels but i prefer the Saltiga, it's very well made and is solid reel. the toriums are a good cheaper option tho, they actually don't have centrifugal brakes or any sort of braking system in the 20 size. Fairly easy to static mag one tho, i did mine and it's very easy to control even at night in a S'Wer..

Yer another one for the Saltist, a good solid reel for a reasonable price, you can save yourself about $20 and get one off motackle.com.au, they are pretty sharp on their prices

Beautiful reel. was going to buy 1 the other day (20 size but) but picked up a hearty rise and daiwa advantage instead to fill another gap in my arsenal, so still saving.
