Dano, not good to hear but a question for ya!

Do you spike your outfit into the sand to bait up? if so do you hold the reel and rod when doing this?

foot!

Reel foot snap'idge' can happen whilst outfit is being spiked into the sand with one hand onto the reel. Always variables however and yeh Shimano are good for warranty's!

Do you mean spiked direct to

Mon, 2009-09-28 16:40

Do you mean spiked direct to the sand, so without a rod tube? Do people really grab the body of the reel and jam the rod into the sand?? Surprised

(sounds like dano is using rod tubes, so not the same thing?)

I'm kind of inclined to

Mon, 2009-09-28 17:38

I'm kind of inclined to think if you jam your rod in the sand by just holding your reel that you pretty much deserve to have it snapped off...

Sounds like dano was doing it properly though, by using a rod tube. Even if the reel seat rests on the tube, you wont get as much pressure as when a fish is on (just a bit of scratching at worst perhaps). I guess if you're pretty rough with it that it could (but I dont think thats the case here). Makes you wonder if it was knocked before or during shipping, or something like that.

Sorry to hear dano. I hope you get it replaced quickly and with minimal fuss so you can be back on the water with it soon (preferably with a in the field test of the drag :p)

People who leave the reel on

Mon, 2009-09-28 16:37

People who leave the reel on the rod in a rod or roof rack while traveling ask for the same issues. I've pointed this out to many people when I was a VFLO.

Cheers

well thats the first i have heard a stella doing that

on the flip side i have an 18000 and a 10000 and a 8000 and a 5000 and i put them well and truly through their paces, never had anything go wrong with them...

warenty, who knows how the reel was treated before it found its way into your hands

Ryan,

so the same thing could happen when leaving the rod and reels in rocket launchers??

not really!

Most Rocket Launches (R/L) have gimbal pins so the foot isnt touching anything to cause an issue. If the R/L has no gimbal pins and the reel foot is resting is should still be OK. Heavy reels in this situation with sharp knocks ie vertical wouldnt do it any favours!

I dont see too many R/L issues, just L/B spiking issues!
