Nick "everywhere"Hocking
Last month i see Nick was in the Fishing Western Australia Magazine as always being a major contribertor for a long time with Jacko then Lisa doing T.V work also,,he also did an artilce last month for Western Angler magazine and now he is on the cover of WAFM, he sure gets around.
A quick skim through this months FWA at the local newsagents shows no sign of Nick (only had a quick skim) not sure what the story is but there might be juicy gossip some where, lol
Which brings me to a point that bugs me,,i have always heard if you write for Mag X you can't write for anybody else,,fair enough if you have a regular colonmist gig but you should be able to write for anybody,,don't forget you see Starlo in and on a range of mags,,never restricted to one.
Anyway just thought i would pasS my obervesations on,,maybe big changes have happened at FWA ?

interesting
Saw my first episode of the new Nick and Lisa show on Sunday. Show was watchable, better than Jacko, but then again, it seemed sooo scripted with no chemistry between the presenters. I guess you just can't win. :(

Saw most of the weekends FWA
Saw most of the weekends FWA and, frankly, I thought it was pretty crappy. Looks as if the show has runout of steam just like the magazine did some time ago.
I agree that the chemistry between presenters in poor and the quallity of the fishing is uninspiring
Just my opinion

Original guys were the best,
Original guys were the best, steve and the english dude. Dunno what harry bowmen is doing to find weirdos for his show. I may have to send an email and see if i can get a part:p Cant be that hard if Lisa got a part......She seems like she has no personality..Im sure theres alot more woman that could be more suited for the role.
Forever learning with fishing

i reckon that nick hocking
i reckon that nick hocking is a bloody good fisherman and needs no one else , ifish style. (prob prefer nick to paul actually)
what was the point in jacko at all??? bit of a tit really.
is that lisa , the one in the magazine whose always holding a herring??
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

I am happy about any fishing
I am happy about any fishing show on tv, especially if based in WA.
Sure the one on the weekend was pretty avg, but I still watched it all and saw some more of WA. I don't think we can complain too much can we??

Well i have been told from a former tackle shop owner and also a writer for another magazine that FWA does not like you writing for anybody else and that none of the other magazines really worry to much .
If you write for FWA i guess they are mistaken or policys have changed.

And I looked into writing for FWA and yeah, they dont want you writing for other mags. Not that I could keep churning out articles monthly, or catch fish consistently, or take worthy pictures or..........

FWA
I had a regular piece in FWA for twelve months a little over 18 months ago, At the same time i was also and still am writing for another northern publication. Justin Nowroge( cant spell is surname) is the editor and i must admit is a top bloke, he didnt mind if i contributed else where and nor should he.
I did stop writing for the mag, basically because i thought the quality was really slipping and not what i really wanted to be involved with. That and a few other issues, but def not because of the editor...
SO i guess i dont know what where you guys think you heard, things might have changed but i doubt it, again I say that is the beauty of freelance writing. Take it from some one that actually did it for the publication you are talking about, not the grape vine
BUT, as tims says bellow i guess you would think Nick is under contract, who knows who really cares. Guy has a pretty good job anyway, probably just trying to make a few extra bucks, all those who have done it know there is bugger all money in writing anyway unless your starlo

Agree
Agree Brad but it could be a little different when you are the face of the TV show etc as well. He most likely has a contract where freelance writers dont.
Nothing wrong with what Nick has done by the looks of it but you would think FWA would have contracted its star presenter to only be able to write for them or atleast give them first refusal as part of the overall deal.

FWA?
I think i saw a bit of the last show, but was massively hung over.
And they were no where near Australia, let alone WA.
Kind of a condradiction to the title of the show..
But like i said, i was half asleep laying on the couch, holding my head with a 2 year old kid driving his dinkie cars all over me..
Was kinda like the Mt bellyrama 1000..

mabe fwa needs dancing girls and smoke machines to regenerate interest. Steve was a terrific presenter. Honest and you could see he really loved the job.

fishing writer!
ha ha he would love that Dumps but Jonesy has left FWA and is back up in Broome now!
As for FWA & Wangler, when I was involved with them as a fishing writter they said you "cant" write for any other local mag (Submitting to East coast mag's ok)
Hense why i'm a freelance writer, no contract/no restraints!

No way near as good as it used to be with you and Steve!
Nick was a very informative fisherman, but it slowly slid down hill after that

I can see your point guys
I can see your point guys but you have to remember that Lisa has just started - like anything there is always a settling in period. You have to give it a little bit of time and she will come into her own as she is a very good fisho. Nick is a top notch fisho and I think he balances the show quite well seeing as he has to take the lead now that Jacko is not there.
I think all the presenters on FWA have been good, Jacko was slightly full on but towads the end of season 8 he really started settle in.
I read all three magazines - FWA, Western Angler and Fishing Western Australia. All of them have good content, some months are better than others. Can you imagine what it takes to ensure you can cover between 30-40 pages of material every month.
Ryan is right and there is a new cameraman for FWA now.

I agree with Mossie,,give Lisa time to show a bit more of herself (personality wise you perves)
I reckon having a lady presenter will appeal to a larger audience as well...

I dont mind the content but
get a little cheesed when they have aired a session where they clearly have caught bugger all!! Its like why did i waste half an hour to watch that.
Or they worst now is on unnamed shows using sloppy EX-CRICKETERS yelling "Waaaahoooo yaaaaaahhooooo blaaaaahoooo!"
And then using the rod like there tuna polling!!
Its like a nurse watching Allsaints or a boxer watching a rocky film. These guys make fishing look bad.

Maybe a change in content/variety?
I wonder why these blokes don't have a look at the shows content. Maybe make the show longer with more content it all seems to be cramped into the half hour.
They could do segments on;
In my opinion I think a female presenter is a good thing ( show the girls that they can catch and look good doing it.... (gonna get shot for that one.LOL) why don't they up the stakes with a third presenter, maybe a couple of younger tackers doing things around the river and from shore like most of our kids in W.A. do.
Presenters don't have to do segments together all the time they need to let their own personality shine through with a local or guide or kid for instance. For me and the fam there is more to fishing than just going up north (which the show features alot maybe cause it is easier).
There thats my bitch on it................

FWA
We have watched the past few seasons of Fishing WA and read the mag every now and then too. I think that it is great to have Lisa on the show. Like Decella said above it does show that everyone can get into fishing. There are not too many female fishing presenters around.
We would rather watch a fishing show based in WA than nothing at all. However we would like to see some more family related fishing activities that also include the kids. The kids love to watch the Fishing WA series and see all the different species of fish out there. They would especially enjoy watching other kids getting into local fishing too.

Give Her A Chance
I went to school with Lisa and could never imagine her fishing! But now she is as keen as mustard and is on the RecFishWest board and is putting out some good strong messages on fishing for the future etc. I think she runs courses through RFW teaching kids at schools and also does a special course for women.
I'm all for it. A women on the show I mean. I agree with mossie and Shorty. Give her a bit of time. She'll be good for the show.
THIS is a little profile I found about Lisa.
I fish for the future - Cause I can't bloody catch anything!

Yeah i reckon she will go
Yeah i reckon she will go alright,,hopefully the chemistry will go alright between her and Justin, i believe Justins leaving soon to do some filming up North,,i believe he is the new replacemwent for Nick,,Nick has been MIA from the Dec and Jan mags (except for ads for the fishing series filmed a while ago).
The question is was he sacked or left because Jacko was sacked and stood up for his mate ?
I am sure we will see him in the other mags though,so he won't be far away.

Thats interesting Carl,,i heard the opposite today and why he was allegly sacked.
Hopefully you are right ,you seem pretty confident about it,not sure why he has not written for his own mag/employer for 2 months but has for the rival magazines though,,
So is Nick Hocking up there filming as well ?,,that would be good news for fans.

Hey Shorty
I am pretty confident because I work with Fishing WA as my company looks after all of their web development requirements.
As I have been saying all along Nick is still with FWA and has not been sacked. Justin has been helping out on some of the trips taking pictures ect but he is NOT taking Nick's spot his focus is still very much the magazine.
Nick wasn’t on the last filming trip as he had some wisdom teeth removed. There will be some awesome episodes of FWA coming up so keep an eye out for Nick and Lisa !!!
