Next school holiday trip

After a very fun week in Monkey Mia in December, we have decided to take the plunge and book a week in Exmouth for Easter, luckily we snuck a site at Yardi creek caravan park. I have searched many posts on fishing inside the reef and realistically we may get out for a troll but will spend most of our time inside the reef, burleying up and chasing Spangos etc

Any info or tips will be fantastic

young lads want a Spanish so will pick our days to head out and troll the back of the reef but being a newbie looking for some rough ideas on getting a few bottom fish

Thx in advance for any replies

biggest issue i found with bototm fishng was getting sharked. be sure to move as soon as they turn up, otherwise u will get sharked every fish. may need to fish heavier gear than normal so u can getfish to the boat quick.

hanging inside the reef with a bit of burley should brin inthe spangos, and theodd trevally etc.

There will be plenty that will have better advice on bottom fishing but mackies are pretty easy. I've always gone out from Tantabiddi and generally troll drop-offs south in 15 - 20 metres. Sometimes they are holding deeper but you'll always find them. Get the odd wahoo too which will be fun for the youngsters.

I haven't been for quite a while so others will comment on burleying for spanglies as that might just cause a shark problem even inside the reef.

Have fun!

Im no Exmouth guru but have mates that get plenty of Spangled Emperor inside the reef on Smaller Halco rooster poppers. Depending on the weather you can be fishing for anything up to small black marlin within 15 minutes of the channel at Tantabiddi, that would put a smile on the boys faces. That is one good looking black snapper pic.

Good luck, Is that a Caribbean your fishing out of.

It's the only way to find fish. Hop in your boat head out the passage at Tantabiddi and chuck out some lures. Have a troll and mark some good looking spots when you see them, go back and hit them later on. I have more fun looking for spots than actually fishing.
