need help with Furuno 587 settings for deep drop
I have the TM260 transducer matched to the 587. Have had it for a while and have had the software upgraded to be able to select the correct transducer in the menu .
Unit reads bottom fine at any boat speed up to about 200mtrs deep but beyond that it is a bit hit and miss at any speed or at drift . Tried it on Monday in 300mtrs and all I could get was bottom reading that was hit and miss and sometimes drop out all together .All it was good for was sort of letting me know the depth but useless for finding fish or structure. If I had the TVG set to high it would black out the screen even with gain turned down to 1 or 2 .
At this stage I have fiddled with all the settings that much ( without getting any result)that I have no idea where I'm at .
I see pictures on fishwrecked of others using the same setup and getting good readings in 500mtrs so I know the unit is capable of it. What am I missing ?
I also have a hds unit and hooking up the same transducer in the same boat gives me a good reading in up to 900mts deep up at Exmouth. To me that would suggest the transducer is not the problem .
Hope someone is kind enough to tell me what settings I should be using eg . tvg ,gain , clutter , colour erase , etc.
Thanks for reading
Cheers
Paul

as OZ74 mentioned
As oz74 noted the tm260 tranny is the 526tid-hdd selection in the setup menu . Was told by Furuno that the 1kw generic setting is not as good because it doesn't take into account the cone angels.

am also interested in this too
I've got a 1KW B164-20 Bronze through hull Transducer. This transducer type is not available in the 587 Menu, can only select "1 KW Transducer" which seems kind of generic.
Whats the Software update you mentioned Paul, how was it done? Can you now see the actual Transducer type in the menu, so in your case TM260?
Cheers

Got the unit from Allboats and there was not a lot of options in the transducer type to select from . Spoke to Furuno and they said there was a free software upgrade out for the 587 that listed more transducers . Took it back to Allboats and they sent it off for me and I just paid for freight . The upgrade doubled the amount of transducers to select from . The tm260 and the b260(I think) are the same units but one is transom mount the other is in hull . 526TID-HDD is the one to select . Having done all that it hasn't helped me any . Lol

587 and TM260
526TID-HDD for the TM260 and this gives you accufish and bottom discrimination features on the 587 if you want to use them.
the plain 1kW setting gives the same performance but without the features.
cheers

I have tried the bottom disc
I have tried the bottom disc and accufish on my 587. Waste of time in my opinion, a bit gimmicky. Just use the standard 1 kW, makes no difference that I can see to normal sounder performance.
