First of all hi there I am new to this forum I have enjoyed all the content I have looked through so far
I am hoping for some to get steered in the right direction I am looking for a Marine GPS Navigation App for an android device I have looked at heaps but not many cover Australia I am happy to pay what ever for a good one.
I just don't want to pay what ever for a BAD one.
if anyone has some insight into these matters your advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou All

For people that have used the Navionics app, how are you finding it? Is it very similiar to the standard Navionics GOLD found on some GPS such as Lowrance?

It chews through my phones
It chews through my phones battery, and I cant work out how to put in a gps mark. I just use it to find contour lines / mark a bit of ground when I find some.

Post ale. Agree that it chews battery. Re the gps marker. Just add the marker point then hit the little magnifying glass on the main map in the top left corner, hit long and lat tab and then click show on map. Cheers. Westy

Navionics is probably the
Navionics is probably the best one for Perth.
I have a Garmin plotter on my boat which uses BlueChart maps but I think the Navionics maps are better. They have more details in their contours. I often use navionics on phone when searching for new ground, then use the garmin chart plotter for marking spots and navigating.
I also have an app called FlyToMap which was cheaper and has decent charts for the Perth area. However still not as good as the Navionics one. The first shot is the navionics one the second is FlyToMap. Both around little island.

Thanks for the screenshots
Thanks for the screenshots DTrain.
In your opinion, is it good enough for inshore use? Eg: 3mile reef, Carnac island areas etc?
Reason I ask is that my Lowrance Elite 5-DSI doesn't have a map card in it (the previous owner didn't have it). A new card costs about $350, so I'm thinking of just paying/downloading the app to use for now..

The maps themselves are fine
The maps themselves are fine for navigating inshore. The GPS on the phones can take a long time to pick up the initial location but after that it's usually pretty accurate.
The only issue would be trying to drive a boat and hold the phone at the same time. Also the phone screen can be hard to see in full sunlight.

Keep an eye out, they pop up
Keep an eye out, they pop up for sale on here from time to time, I scored a nav gold for oz wide for 50 bucks! The dude bought a lowrance and they accidentally slipped 2 cards in the box! The nav app is good, even just to have incase your plotter shits itself, heaps of exposed and shallow reef off our coast, dont wanna be out there with out maps
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.
