My Stance on RFW and a BIG thankyou to Terry!

Background

Well, it's been an interesting week so far in 'forum land' LOL

Firstly, let me say that I totally respect everyone's decision on whether they wish to be a RFW member or not and that I would never derogative or otherwise, cast judgement or solicit a persons stance.

My post in 'that thread' was a feeling and response (as to reaction) of frustration and hopefully sway an apparent mind set from a certain source (I'm sure you can work that out).

It was not, nor is intended to, impose or otherwise promulgate an idea that RFW members resign nor is it intended to usurp or attentuate positive feelings amongst members. Personally, I don't agree with all of RFW's proposals, but then, so won't every one else - they are a malange of different ideas, from different stakeholders. But I do think RFW do a darn fair job in a very difficult, complex and emotionally felt arena.

Thank you Terry!

Earlier today, Terry, of his own volition, telephoned me. If you don't already know, Terry is a volunteer and he pays for his own telephone calls. Terry took the incredible trouble of discussing my concerns and issues and we exchanged view points for more than 60 minutes. I don't always agree with Terry - but I do respect his approach, his dogged tenacity, his indefecitibility and his goals. If EVER any of you thinks that Terry doesn't care, or his otherwise ambivalent as to our (your) thoughts and perspectives, then nothing could be further from the truth. His comittment is without compromise or pier.

Thank you Terry! Your calibre is both rare and appreciated!

RFW

So; since I previously posted my intent to not renew my membership, I think it's only fair and equitable to re-post (and promulgate) my intention to stay with RFW and supoort and overall good cause (though details will be stumbled over LOL).

NB - This is ALL and ONLY about my previous stance on RFW and an appreciation of Terry - NOT to revisit previous 'stuff' - we're all better than that. :))

I understood your frustration.
Unfortunately it only takes one bad apple (you know who I mean) to taint all the other apples.
Agree totally with what you have said about Terry - you can't deny his passion for fishing and his willingness to help others.

Great post mate and hopefully others don’t go over board with emotions ....

Just think about all the positive things RFW have achieved. The last couple of days have been disappointing in that people have mistakenly interpreted Jamie’s passionate views as a refection of RFW. Jamie is also a volunteer who has put his hand up to help in securing better outcomes for ALL recreational anglers. Like Frank, Jamie has his own personal views which are not necessarily those of RFW. Every body has an opinion….and we should be able to express that without people getting all hot and bothered. Even if its not the same as our own and we believe that the individual is way out of line….I suppose what I’m trying to say is don’t lets Jamie’s opinions (right or wrong) cloud peoples opinions of RFW and what they stand for…… anglers need RFW so please support the ONLY representative body we have.  United we stand, together we will achieve the best outcome for our favourite pastime….

Have a great day

Well, I'm not going to revisit the 'J factor', because that servers no useful purpose and just re-hashes a whole lot of 'stuff' anyway.

I know you mean 'disappointing in that people have mistakenly interpreted Jamie’s passionate views as a refection of RFW' as a general comment - my feelings were not refelected back on my general overal respect for the good work that RFW and Frank and Terry in particular do.

My understanding is that 'the powers that be' will take more notice of RFW with increasing numbers.

But there's a beautty in all this. There is more than anecdotal evidence that you can 'have you cake and eat it too', meaning that you can be a member of RFW AND have the opportunity to make individual submissions - I did on 225 and it appears that the powers that be are listening to both.

"Remember, you can only have a say of who is on the board as a member."

are you suggesting that fishwrecked members sign up to recfishwest to get jamie the boot from the board?

if so,i think thats a pathetic attitude.

Voting for RFW Board members

Thu, 2008-05-22 08:13

No

Colin is saying as I said to him, when he said he saw no alternative to leaving RFW:- "If you remain a RFW member then you can vote however you like. If you cancel your RFW membership, then you don't have a say in who gets elected as a RFW Board member"

Hmmm.....Gary....no

Thu, 2008-05-22 08:38

Garry, thanks for taking the time for the input (sincere).

Hmmmm, no I'm not. But; I can see why that interpretation may occur. I'm not interested in getting into a slanging match (and not saying that you are either). So, I won't be drawn into one. Goodness knows, there's been far too much of that anyway, and it serves no good purpose.

People will make their own mind up on all board members - as they should, so my intent was to encourage (but not influence) people to stay with RFW and look at the bigger picture. Like I said, in this, was the intended core thrust of my post, IMO, whilst I may diasgaree with some of RFW's stances, I think they do a pretty fair job and wanted to express my opinion (only) after my original stance.

By all means, please, accept my apologies if humbridge was taken. Laughing

Just so there is no misinterpretation or ill feelings and as Colin has just said my intent is clear, I'll remove those comments in the interest of genuine intent. Wink
