My little hobby making lures - Scotty's Lures

Gday guys, thought a few of you guys on the forum might like to see the lures I make. I have dabbled in lures for a few years going back to my Darwin days catching barra and blue water species. I got back into making lures around two years ago now and my preference is top water lures. My favourite lures being propped fizzer lures, stick baits, vibes etc. I have a real passion for shallow water fishing catching pelagics and reefie's, you just can't beat that top water strike.

Anyway, you dont really see to many posts in regards to our hobbies so I hope you enjoy the pics.

Cheers Scotty Scotty's Lures - I'm on facebook and Insta as Scotty's Lures, this is by no means a gee up for support. I probably lack the confidence to put up more pics as I do not see my lures as anything spectacular yet but I have been told to give it a crack so feel free to give any feedback.

Cheers Fella's

Crappy photo's off the phone so I do apologise and just chose a few randoms

Cheers Dave, I have done quite a good range for barra in sizes from 60mm and all the way upto 150mm body length and full through wire for those XOS Queensland impoundment barra.
It's pretty cool when Im sitting in the shed late at night and I get a message from someone saying "Hey Scotty, I'm on the Fitzroy right now and just caught this barra, thought you would love to see the pic".
It's pretty cool.

Too Lovely

Thu, 2022-11-10 11:47

Lovely work Scotty. Much respect to you.

Hard graft making one's own products, what with the falling US dollar (as most components come from overseas), everything rising in price, people out of the blue wanting to be sponsored anglers and then competing with the chinese products from 'Aussie' companies flooding the market.

I reckon people would be amazed at the number of little Aussie battlers selling their 'own' stuff i.e. jigs, vibes, assists, poppers who actually are just importing the stuff from China and labelling is as their own. Laughable really.

Looking forward to seeing plenty of captures from the Montes.

"people out of the blue wanting to be sponsored anglers"

I genuinely lol'd at this. My mate works at a high end bar in the City is is constantly flooded with messages from 'influencers' offering to promote the bar in return for free food and drinks.

Hey John, as you would know mate, you really have to have a passion for making lures. If I equate the hours spent making versus profit some people would call me bonkers lol
The money I do make literally goes back into materials and then I'm off creating the next idea in my head lol

It's a bloody lot of fun

Fri, 2022-11-11 10:56

It's a bloody lot of fun mate! I caught some mackies and tuna on topwaters at the Mackerel Islands recently and it was awesome. Another group of anglers found a heap of spaniards stacked up in 40m. One of the young guns started casting big GT poppers and it brought them to the surface and they were going bonkers apparently. Same young gun had one come out about 5m and he set the hooks in mid-air! They got a monster that was bitten in half by a shark and teh half that was left would have been 15kg plus.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the awesome comments.

Hey Markie, I usually have a good number of new lures every couple of months and always happy to send a few new shapes out to be tested, if you could send me a PM so it's in the inbox I won't forget mate. When I get people to do testing I usually ask where and what types of fishing you do so I can better suit what lures I would send.

Brocko, always time to convert mate lol

Hey John, yah I have had my fair share of messaging, I like to get a rapport with the people I send my lures to for testing, you tend to pick up straight away who are genuine or otherwise. Beau tested out a couple of my real early fizzers, I got in touch with Beau as I felt he was quite respected on this group and true to his word he receives my lures in the mail and then next day he is sending pics and video of the YTK he just caught, it was pretty cool as he caught fish on my lures and I met a really good genuine bloke in the process.
My biggest cost in materials is the trebles unfortunately, as I only use BKK, and also the big eyes which has become my signature "thing" for the lures, everything else is relatively cheap but when you add them all up and then factor in time, I'm doing it out of love for fishing lol

They certainly look great. You would have to be happy with them looking as good as they do. Even better all bitten up by teethy critters that take a fancy to them .

Thanks Russ, just got back, weather was soooo good it was a bit quiet for stick baits and had to concentrate on targeting the lesser trevalley's being (bludger and golden) as there was no real swell pumping to get the big GT's into gear - got a few small models off the reefs but nothing to get fully excited about so hit the flats for those fast fish travelling in packs.

I know what you mean Dave, I was there 5yrs ago and hit a whole bunch of nasty weather, 6mtr swells crashing the charter boat on the last day as we were leaving and having to divert to Onslow to get to safe anchor for the night and then onto Exmouth the next day.
No swell on this trip so it just opened up different options.

 We took my mate's Caribbean

Wed, 2022-11-23 10:56

We took my mate's Caribbean 2300 from Exmouth, which is a fair hike. The trip over was good and we fished and then stayed at Long Island for a night. The return trip was a bloody nightmare! Travelling into a howling sou'wester for nearly 5 hours is not fun! We abandoned the straight line approach and headed towards Wheatstone to get in the lee of the land. Even that took 2 hours but then we could travel faster and hugged the coast until we hit the Gulf then it was bash, bash all the way to Exxy. I was bloody pleased when we pulled into the marina I can tell you.

Glad you got a good one mate!
