My first Sambo!

My first ever Dusky Morrowong and best Spear to date.

5.3kg taken on a Cressi Sioux 50 in 6m South of Garden Island! Only managed to bag this one as it was a perfect head shot, might be time to upgrade to a bigger gun!

That is not a sambo, its a dusky morwong, best left alone. Suggest you buy a species ID book.

Have you tried to eat that??

I bet it was good fun, right up until you tasted it. I know a lot of blokes who wouldn't let you on their boat if you brought that back up with you.
Keep at it though, spearing is good fun, but it's all about selection. You can't pop something off the spear and send it back down on a release weght to fight another day.

chasing that first sambo.

Easy mistake to make and i am sure if we all think back to when you may have misidentified a species you could all probably laugh. I remember when i was so excited at catching my first good fish up at Gnaraloo 10 years ago. I came back to the the fillet shed telling everyone that i had caught a Dhufish. Lots of laughter followed. It took me a few weeks to look it up and realise it was actually a Perl Perch. The boys did have a good laugh at my expense. Education is what it is all about and i bet mlayton now knows what a sambo looks like.

Enjoy

Easy mistake to make.....seen them under water before, they look extremely similar to a sambo until you see both a few times and can tell the difference....
