Medium Plastics outfit for Exmouth
Submitted by Torzar on Sun, 2014-01-19 11:16
Hi fellas,
Chasing some ideas and advice on a spinning outfit for my trip to Exmouht mid-year. Will be landbased so need something that will cast reasonably well, the main techniques I will be using are softplastics but I want to be able to chuck a slice and some medium sized hardbodies if the need arises. Not sure how heavey to go; need to be able to handle some larger fish without skulldragging the majority of catches and therefore killing all the sport, somewhere around 20lb line I was thinking ? On the Reel side of things I have been looking at either 4000 daiwa or a 5000 shimano but most of the advice I have received is all in Shimanos favour??
Budget is between $600-$800.
keen to hear some advice and opinions!!
Cheers!

A hard task that one
I have been looking to buy a similar combo for the same reasons for when we travel to exmouth.
the best I have found to suit your budget would he a shimano saragosa reel 5000 (the new model)
a daiwa black rod something like the super cast or sure cast I think the model is.
and then some 20-25lb braid to suit.
all up will set you back about$580

Loooove the sustain, had the Stella sw 5000 before that and sold it to get the sustain, an incredible smooth reel snd it's held up to the punishment I've put it through so far.
Were staying at yardi creek homestead, gonna be chasing a landbased gt hopefully

Samurai reaction 20-30 lb on
Samurai reaction 20-30 lb on either stradic 5000 or sustain 5000 both. combo under $800. Ive got the combo and its absolutely awesome. never felt a rod so nice, incredible technology and quality. pulled up huge trout and cod out of reef in 15 metres. and big sharks and mackies. crazy light too and wicked for casting, 20 or 30 lb line suits well.

Samurai reactions
Awesome rods, and I have(had) a few from Jig10 down. Just love them and since moving back down from Karratha had to downgrade some to the lighter stuff. But they arent on the cheaper side. I have the SR402 rated 10-20lb and its the beez kneez for that use. It was the go to rod for shallow water in the boat in Karratha, and definitely shore based in Exxy. But when you match it with a suitable equal quality reel like a Sustain then it will stretch the budget. From recollection, $350-4 for rod, slightly less for a Sustain 4-5000.
Saragosa IMO better than a Sustain for beaches, just more salt and sand tolerant.

I've used my Stradic 5000
I've used my Stradic 5000 with 30lb braid and a shimano jewel barra spin and love it. Bit cheaper than the budget you have but a great little combo. Went to 30 from 20lb this year, there are some big nasty fish around those reefs
