I went on Friday, heaps of nice boast and I was very suprised by the number of people there and the effort of the displays. There were boats for everyone and great specials on electronics. Also the Wangler talk on filleting and knife sharpening was well worth sitting in on.

I caught Brenz and his new toy there.

I liked the poly pangas, the 16' CC down at Commodore Marine, the Trophy 25' CC over at Challenge Marine was hot, but no room in my drive for it!

I checked out the Northbanks too, a little birdy told me they were worth an eyeful!

yeah the CC that Commodore had (the yellow one) looked really nice as a sportfisher, and a good price too if you got a deal on a motor.

yeah I ended up doing the electronic roundabout seeing who would do the best price. 2 gave me good service and one stall was sh*thouse. Not going to bother with them in the future.

Something that made me laugh though was one shops price book carried around that had 2 lists- one was the "tell them this price", the other was "our lowest price". Even though I could see the page clearly they tried to tell me the higher price, but they did play the game with the lowest price for the show so they got my money. All a bit of fun really.

Albany? That would be Westerberg, at a guess? Next guess the funny looking boat would be an Air Rider by Marine Kits. A friend's dad had one built awhile back and loves the boat but was a bit underwhelmed by the shipwright, although they have since changed hands, so perhaps they improved.

Hoookt, with boat purchase

Sun, 2010-10-10 19:40

Hoookt, with boat purchase you are about to enter a very expensive and soul destroying hobby, filled with days of huge swells, high winds, hard work, hidden costs, sunburn, late deckies, squid ink that just wont come off, sounders that go on the fritz for no reason, mystery electric gremlins, flat batteries and countless other traumas.............BEST MONEY YOU WILL EVER SPEND.

Once a boatie, always a boatie......I love mine!

Sun, 2010-10-10 19:56

very basically:
Aluminium- lighter (most of the time), tougher (ie can take a knock) but generally has a rougher ride due to "plain" hull shapes. Maybe cheaper depending on material used, can be fixed a little easier.

Fibreglass- better ride due to hull shapes, probably a nicer look, but chips easier and requires professional repairs.

Both have their fans and knockers, I've had numerous boats in both materials but my next will boat will be fibreglass.

Mmm Boats

Sun, 2010-10-10 20:07

Went Saturday  dont recall seeing haines hunter or cruise craft on display had a good look around think the 24 Carribean with twin verados will do me not the i deal rig to  to tow the kids around. Good to see Paul from northshore on display with a couple of boats. Did any one stop and look at the straightness and fairness of gelcoat finish on any of the boats on display a lot of wobbly finished rigs on the market the carribean  was up their as one of the best finished  i saw. Loved the IMG 40 with triple mercs but not for the $ 475.000.00 price tag. The garmin touch screen gps fishfinders are way cool too but i still think i am a Raymarine man. Overall had a great afternoon and keen to sink my teeth in to a new project i think. Mmm new boat or pissed of WifeyLaughing

went along this afternoon

Sun, 2010-10-10 20:31

still heaps of people there right up until 5pm when it closed. Plenty of good boats on display and it was good to see plenty of smaller trailer boats compared to some other boat shows. Normally boat shows only cater for the 70 grand plus buyers but the Mandurah show had everything from the himble 3m ali tinnie to 70 foot Sunseekers. Some of the Bluefin ali boats looked good for the cheaper end of the scale.

all in all a good boat show I reckon

Sun, 2010-10-10 21:32

I was there on Friday too.

The Surtee's boats got my vote too. Nothing too fancy on them and they were just 100% practical and very well built. Would love to see a walkaround model from them one day...

We were mainly looking at the ali boats - but did have a stroll through the sunseekers just for some air conditioned comfort and to see how the other half live...

I was pretty surprised at the service at a few of the stalls. The lack of knowledge about some of their products and their obvious lack of interest was quite surprising. On the other hand some of the guys there were very helpful, even the guys who had the 40 foot half a million dollar centre console from Dhubai that we were drooling over.

Hodgy from Wangler put on a pretty good show of casting accuracy - hitting a water bottle thrown up in the air from about 20 feet away.

I'm with you Scottbec - The Surtees 7.3 was a ripper... Best layout and most practical layout.

Theodore Marine also got my attention... beautiful boats.

The 70' Bertram went alright also but need to sell more than  a few old plastics to pay for one

Yeah I saw it there!

Geez Naiad really couldn't get themselves better advertising than their display down there; bunch of sea rescue, a few cop boats and then another couple fisheries boat on the other side of the marina.

Mon, 2010-10-11 19:39

I went on the saturday arvo for a few hours, bought a nice ice box after doing the run around to every stall compairing them. That 7.3 Surtees was a bloody rippa, had me self drooling over it to get the missus to say dont even think about it. Back to the quinny for me. I thouhgt the show was great and will never waste my time on the perth show again. The last time perth had a good show was back in the days of Fremantle imo. I just wish i had more time there to look at everything

Cheers rossco

not that impressed my brother was trying to get a price on a dingy motor 25-30hp and it was like trying to pull teeth, no one wanted to sell one. had to laugh went into a tackle shop area and saw lots of sp tails and asked about the jig heads and they said no they dont have any there you would have to go to their shop in mandurah to get them if you wanted them.
