mackeral islands??

hey everybody, im.............unfortunetly moving up to the mackeral island system within the next couple of weeks (notice the sarcasim) and im just looking for information as to what i might encounter fish wise. i dont have a boat, but love land based fishing so thats not a problem. ive done many trips up to the northern region (as a youngster) with family mainly around exmouth, but the last couple of years ive REALLY gotten into my fishing. i havnt heard much about these islands but i know that they do hold fish, im just not sure what type and how big. any information would be greatly valued!

I'm gathering you'll be based in Onslow or have you picked up a job at the Mackerel Islands Resort on Thevenard Island?

on chevron plant i presume? if not and you're working for the resort you'll have access to 2 boats, not counting the plaka's....

shore based on Thevenard we had fun spinning for juvenile GT's, long tom and golden trev's... Squid off the jetty at night also.

But I suggest you get chummy with the guys on the resort and hitch a ride on their boat when you can...

Fins gloves and snorkel

Last time we were there it was crays every night for dinner, right infront of the cabins on the north point was the best spot. we spent a two days walking the island snorkelling of the beach saw and caught painteds all around the island. Also caught a few queenies on the southern tip, some very shallow water and sorta like a sand spit
