I feel like the further I travel now the less fish I catch! ha ha

I'm planning a back to basics approach for bottom fish. Still undecided about pelagics yet!

same here, taking the boat to Jurien this long weekend. Hoping to find something bloody decent, but as per usual it will be too windy to get outside the reefs

2015 - first proper year I had the boat, killed the inshore pinks, PB dhue on jig and a few good trips up north where I basically caught everything I wanted.

2016 - Worked away, few inshore pinks and still got a few good dhuies out deeper

2017 - Working away until mid year, up north trip plagued by sharks, no inshore pinks, no dhuies

I'm hoping this year turns around for me haha

I went from a small 4.75m run about too a 6.6m. My plan was big boat big fish and went out miles. ha. Now I quite regularly fish some of my old marks only a couple of km offshore. Easy work . Short trip, back too basics and truth be told more fun. I'll save the deeeeep days for when the weather is Stella.

Yep, I walk past my dinghy every day, but that’s as far as it goes. Mind you I’m not always up for a bobbing around in the briny when it’s 35 degrees plus.

I agree, this year/end of last year has been really bad for wind. Your fighting against the easterlies for most of the morning, then you get maybe an hour of good weather, then the seabreeze is in by 11am and it's all over. Haven't had a good glass off in months.

Im the complete bloody opposite....after 7 years with a boat im still itching to get out for either a dive or fish if weather suits....but at 41 I still have a case of ADHD thats for sure.

If not, i'm having a beer of an arvo sorting my gear or fixing somthing on the old girl for the next trip.....as for catch rate, comes and goes....I just try make the trip as enjoyable as possible by only going when the weather is good enough to get back without needing to book a Ciro appointment.

Maybe change your regular ramp and explore new ground, I changed from Hillarys/Two Rocks to Mindarie 5 years ago and haven’t looked back , Or do some reconnaissance days on the good weather days (hard to restrain yourself i know) where it’s more searching less fishing-( this pays off when the weather is shit and you want to nip out for an hour and get fish). , I have not missed the bag limit more than 2-3 times  when targeting demersals for about 5 years now in my various boats and  I put it down to fishing smarter than I used to. I don’t go any deeper or wider I have just spent time grid searching the 20s , 30s , 40s , also  having a couple of trusted guys to share spots with helps a lot  ( I have 1 that  I share with from FW and my best mate so now we have 3  boats that have good electronics and are out most weekends) , the last 5 years has resulted in honing my skills again as at 43 I don’t have the drive to get beaten to death in shit weather that I had when I was 18 , I certainly don’t profess to know it all but I changed my approach and it paid off , electronics that you can use well are more important than the boat too .

Yep mines on the down hill slide. Haven't caught anything exciting for a fair while. Have had a few trips out for nothing worth mentioning, still managing the bread and butter, so shouldn't moan about it too much. There's always next time.....

lost mo jo. . my prob is i dont think i ever found it, just plodded along. others on the boat catch but i battle.

get back to basics, go after the whiting and build up from there. it works, you get the feel for the bite back.

if going deep just drop your bait and put the rod in the holder and sit down for a snooze. its almost inevitable the bite will happen

Been there quite often, and i think i know the reason why, for myself anyway. Starting off with a small boat i was limited to staying in close, did well anchoring and burleying for demersals out to ffb, then with a bit more experience i wanted to go further, but without a bit of patience and decent electronics it can be hard work finding new ground that clearly isnt on the charts thats been hammered over time. Now I just sick to i know what works more often than not

Friday morning

With the flat mornings this week I've booked Friday morning in for an inshore fish.

Might have to get the southern cross tatt out for some good karma.

Lost plan B

Thu, 2018-01-25 09:29

Got a size dhui last trip so still getting a feed but recently lost the back up plan. Got home from work to find the power had tripped out and the freezer was off. Lost Dhu, Snapper, Blackass, Baldy, Mackeral from Kalbarri and Barra from Broome. Not happy Jan.
Not too fussed about going out right now with the wind and the high numbers at the boat ramp over school holidays so I'll be looking for some good weather next week :)
