Jurien Bay At Easter
Submitted by Lisa on Wed, 2010-02-24 22:07
Hi
Most of our time is spent in Jurien. We used to catch heaps of dhues and baldies but now not many at all. You still see plenty of fish coming in but not on our boat. Anyone know where to start again. Might see you there over march april.
Thanks Lisa

Will be there...
...over Easter holidays. We were up there last year at the same time and the bottom fishing was very ordinary. Even the charter boat was doing it tough, and he used to be a crayfisherman who is very familiar with the area.
Hoping to go a bit better this time but there should be plenty of spaniards and hopefully a tuna or two if the bottom fishing doesn't work out.
I see where that road from Lancelin to Cervantes will be finished in the not too distant future...once the crowds start pouring in the fishing's only going to get harder.

I have done a lot of fishing around this area overe the years at Easter time. I have found many good fish in very close this time of year, I have always been told it is due to the crays being in close. If you do no good out wide or the weather doesn't permitt try fishing lumps in 10-15m of water. I have picked up some great fish in these areas when restricted to the tinny.
Don't even need a sounder just look for the swells rising and the reefy bottom over the side, there is nothing better than seeing a big dhuie smash your bait in shallow water!
You need to remember a lot of people just drive straight over these spots in search of deeper water, don't be fooled the fish are there. The trick is to move around a lot as well and try different ground.
Good luck I love fishing those waters at that time of year but unfortunetly I'll be at work!!
Tight lines to all :)

Easter in Leeman is
the same as Jurien Bay Packed. We usually in Leeman take the pots out the water and the boat sits on the trailer for the break. Before or after Easter go out about 10 mile's like Jurien Bay there is fantastic ground going out to old farts spots, usually never get to his spot as he's looking at the sounder wow look at this spot lets give it a drift if nothing we'll move on, usually t get a nice dhuie or black bum, travel a bit further out and find another nice spot yahoo watch the boats fly past us while we get a nice fish, people just fly out without looking at their sounder while travelling at nice pace and also old fart does the same coming in oh look at this Roberta lets have one last drop and we usually pick up a fish or nice shark. Think the secret to all fish-o's you travel over some excellent ground but your going to fast to see. People in dinghies have caught good size fish in 12' of water.
Leeman if you want really good fish you have to go to the second bank
