I have heard of inflation but….

Absolutely crappy octopus now selling at $35 a kilo .....imported, bloody massive single tentacle which I assume come from a pacific occy. I questioned the tackle store and they told me ALL bait jumping dollars each week from their suppliers.

nothing cheap these days

Wed, 2023-01-04 21:54

I got tuna heads the other day. $15:60 and i remember when they were $2:50.

They had some other fish heads for 16:50 and there were only 4 off them, thi shit is just the waste and should be sold as that. i think i couls just about buy good quality eating fish fillets for less. The bait suppliers are a bunch of thieving gits.

Now here is something to think about when you are talking getting ripped off. Have a look at your house insurance. They say you have to be insured for $400:000 for your house (hypertheticaly ) look at the policy it says house and contenets but they have you insuring the land as well. If your house sells for $400:000. If it burnt down you could get the block cleared for $50:00 and a new house built for 250:000 to $300:000. That means you are paying for your land. its a bloody rourte and they should be pulled up for it. They wanted me to insure my place 3x1 for $308:000. I checked up on it and i can get a new 3x1 built for $164:00 and it would be better than the one i have now. The insurance compnys are getting you to insure at the sale price not what the abode is actaully worth.

Yeah we were paying 35 bucks for Lunds 12 months ago at my local,we go for a flick down the beach after hezzas and small whiting for out wide.We get 3 trips out of a box of squid mixed up with whole and cut fish baits when kept nice and chilled

All I use to use ( Lunds ) 1 thing you will notice . Top layer of squid unreal size. There smart . Shit all below top layer . If I ever had to buy bait ( no way) I would honestly go to super market and buy tubes . Cheaper and cleaner . Read earlier post very much way to go for good bait . I couldn’t imagine buying bait . Costs a fortune . Keep in mind fish shops put bugger all on bait . The good old occy gets bought by overseas market. Way too much demand . Hence why many shops haven’t got it . Squid and cuttlefish beats occy hands down ( so I’ve found out) cuttle fish being the better bait .

LJ have tried cuttlie ……..never got a touch even from pickers

Thu, 2023-01-05 10:20

Do you skin it like occy as I catch quite a few but just put them back ....will think twice about that now.   However your suggestion regarding squid tubes is a very interesting one as easy to turn into a really neat strip bait, nice and white and will appeal to large KGW as well

I have always used them for bait when caught . Only tentacles get used for fish food and do ok on kg, the rest is mine. Nicer than squid to eat.

Occy prices have shot up in the last 20 years, young bloke working as a decky in 2 Rocks would swap 10 litre bucket of fresh occy for 2 cans of coke at the cray depot. Love to see what they get for it now.

AND to rub salt in some wounds, I have about 10kg that I am going to cook up shortly, yummy
