how many is too many (people on 5m boat...)
Submitted by scottbec on Tue, 2010-05-04 12:17
hey guys,
planning on going out for a day with a few mates and we are currently working out if it is worth going with 4 of us on a 5m boat, or 2 each in 2 boats (5m and a tinny)...
anyone got any thoughts on how many is too many???
cheers,
Scott

Depends
on what you intend doing. Anchoring or trolling 4 is probably fine but if drift fishing 2-3 max I would say.
On my 5.8m even with heaps of deckspace its a struggle sometimes with 3, so as Alfred says maybe go 2 on each boat for comfort.
Cheers

Ive got a 5m runabout and 2
Ive got a 5m runabout and 2 people is realy comfortable to fish with weather ur drift fishing or anchor fishing, 3 starts getting too crowded for me, unless ur trolling or just cruising then 4 should be fine, just dont all stand on the same side at once!

weld the tinny to the side
of the 5m boat and make yourself a kickass catamaran with plenty of fishing room.
Problem solved.

4 is too many on a boat that size,
you will spend most of your time untangling your lines. Plus by the time you put all your gear in you will be tripping over each other. 2 in each boat the way to go.

2x2
2 in each boat. I've got a 5 metre centre connie and 3 is one too many when drifting and trolling.

2 x 2
Thanks for the feedback guys. i do usually prefer to just have 2 on the boat and dont mind having 3... more than likely we will try to go with 2 each in 2 boats.
Huggy - I like the idea of welding them together, but think that trailering them home might be a bit of hard work.

One of the boats out at west
One of the boats out at west end hitting the salmon schools had perhaps 9 guys on it. It wasn't clear how many of each were fishing, drinking and yelling, but it was clearly pretty good fun.

i would say go for 2, we used to fish 4 on a 5.7 and 2 of them were kids and it was crowded when you had all the gear on board . just make sure the other boat has all the correct safety gear on it as well .
