Hedland and Karratha advice please/desparate deckies
Gday all
very excited about getting to spend a few days between Port Hedland and Karratha with the Mrs (super-keen fisho) 22-26 Jan and hopefully catch our first barras or just have a good time. at this stage we spend Fri 22nd in PH and Sun 24th onwards in K town, sat 23rd is undecided depending on fishing opportunities.
If anyone can spare some local knowledge on times/tides and LB spots (not sure yet if i'll have a 4wd available) we would be stoked to up our chances in what will be a short window of opportunity.
if anyone happens to have a berth available for a couple of very secretive hard fishers we can pay all fuel, bait, beer, whatever. both just keen as to get out there!
we haven't been able to find any barra guides or similar so far so if anyone has contacts along those lines PLEASE let me know.
cheers and tight lines

Dampier archipelago huh,
Dampier archipelago huh, I look at that every day from my crib room window at work and live across the road from it. Doesn't matter how bad my day gets, I look across at that view and everything falls back into place, what a great sight.

G'day Alan, I quite like it
G'day Alan, I quite like it here, food is excellent, wet mess beer is always cold and a reasonable price. Rooms are comfortable and while we dont have foxtel, wireless broadband works well to keep me in touch with the rest of the world.
Cheers

Boat hire
Gday hansie. I have just set up a small boat hire in Karratha if youre interested. At this stage I only have one boat - a polycraft 4.1m challenger but is perfect for barra fishing (surveyed to 2nm offshore). Can help you out with a bit of local knowledge. Check out....

thanks darth
i'll check on that today
also, thanks for the encouraging words guys. i realise the area is fish rich but ill-informed trips there in the last couple years have proved beyond doubt that it is well and truly possible to catch zero fish if you aren't on the money.
was really hoping for a few specifics...
eg: 'X creek on a low neap tide will be worth a look' or 'don't bother fishing the boat ramp groyne until dark' etc.
good to have encouragement tho.

Down at the Samson causeway
Down at the Samson causeway a couple of hours either side of a spring low is an excellent spot for jacks with unweighted small mullet. Fish on the ocean side and don't be put off by the shallow water. Jacks go off, especially after dark/late afternoon.

i can't help with a deckie
i can't help with a deckie spot due to my boat being out of action but if your looking for some land based fun head to point samson and to the rocks off honeymoon cove for some goof fun with some queenies and trevally with the good chance of some nice jacks and cod. i've always got threadies from the back beach on an outgoing tide fish the high to the low even in 2 foot of water. spin up some flag, bluebone etc from withnell bay.

Electrics are all playing
Electrics are all playing up. had no sounder or engine guages last trip, bit hard to find the fish and know how much fuel you have etc without them.
just another job to the growing list, this isn't supposed to happen in a new boat is it?

Fish at the river mouth at
Fish at the river mouth at Cossack during the last hour of the run out and first hour of the run in using livies. At Hedland try walking out on the reef opposite the main town area and fish into the dredged channel. Use a 100lb handline and crab bait.
