The Hand held garmin are pretty good. That way when you get out and go for a walk into the bush you can still find your way back to the car.

If ya go hand held, get one which can also be run on 12 volts cigarette socket.  they do chew through batteries  quickly

On some Garmin models if the battery goes completely flat you loose all waypoints

Cost a little more...but does alot more;

IPAD2 with 3G, load memory map.  You can make tracks aswell.  8+hour battery life.

As a bonus you can take pics and video of ya shoots.

If it is really quiet (nothing to shoot), sit down a play a shoot em up game!

If camping over night, Star Walk is a pretty cool app aswell.

Cheers Pete

garmin gpsmap 76cs

Thu, 2012-03-22 12:34

I use a garmin gpsmap 76cs, it runs on 2 AA batteries, easily replaced to repower if flattened. has a micro SD to install maps on and records waypoints. holds waypoints even when dead flat for over a couple of months. works well, I have mine as a backup to my system in the boat. used around mt magnet area with great reception. elieve its a discontinued products now as I have had mine for over three years and still going strong. able to be mounted in a cradle and run of 12 volt power as well wired into a car or boat.
