Labour hire companies

Mon, 2012-08-27 21:30

Some mine sites use labour hire mobs to fill vacancies, once you prove ya worth they may take you on full time and put you onto their books. That's how a few of my friends got on site.

The mining boom is over

Mon, 2012-08-27 22:09

The mining boom is over apparantly.

if you move to kalgoorlie  you should get a job easy with one of the smaller gold miners.

Hays and skilled supply

Mon, 2012-08-27 22:30

Hays and skilled supply personnel to most of the major mining companys give them a call.Do your 3 months with them as a contractor and generally the client will sign you over with them after that

Try one of the lower paying

Mon, 2012-08-27 22:43

Try one of the lower paying companies to get a start ,because that is all you need  a start,....mining experience. Try Capes Crushing or similiar small companies, they will give you the experience you need ,They have water carts, loaders, excavators etc etc...just keep going until you get your break..It will happen !! No secrets unless you know  someone ,but if you dont , dont let that stop you. Just get a start the opportunities will open up after that. Most poeple you are competing with really cant be bothered, just do the extra phone call etc, annoy someone until they give you your chance, something will happen.  Good luck

keep showing the face

Mon, 2012-08-27 22:56

my eldest son had a tuff time getting back into construction up north but in the end the hard yards he did paid off.he did the rounds of the employment agencies going into their offices giving them his resume in person then going into contractors with contracts up north and showing his face giving out the resume etc.he then complied a list of those he had seen face to face and visited in person once a week. yep took a bit of time and effort at times all the knock backs got him down but he stuck at it and it paid off, if i may offer a bit of advice visit companies in person see the hro if you can everytime you visit and just say your making sure you are on their radar if you can't see the hro have a talk to the receptionist for a minute or two keep showing the face not a phone voice it works and be smart casual dressed not in fluro shirt etc.

good luck

Yep

Tue, 2012-08-28 05:52

Yep, recruitment companies are the go. Go in and get friendly, a start is all you need and your on your way. Recruitment mobs also pay well because your casual and only need an hours notice to f.off. Once your in you can do whatever you like and move around and find a better roster. Was the best move i ever made.

Monadelphous

Used to take people in with skills but little experience, might be worth a shot with them.  If you have got you dogging, might be worth a crack at getting a job with A. Noble and Sons, Unirig, Bullivants, Sling Rig etc up in Karratha as they get paid pretty well or else the mining companies come along and pinch their employees.  Perhaps even some of the town shires.

Try Byrnecut or Newcrest. Both at Telfer where I work, Byrnecut u/g and Newcrest open pit. Or if you want to try something different, go drilling. Depends on age a bit though as it can be a physically demanding job.

Tue, 2012-08-28 08:43

Try a compnay called MACA (mining and civil australia) they have the earthmoving contract at many small to mid sized mines throughout the goldfields and mid-west. i know they hire a lot of green truck drivers and operators someone with your experience i would imagine they would take on board for sure

Something can't be right

Tue, 2012-08-28 10:26

With such a shortage of workers and your apparant qualifications I would have thought it would have been an easy task using the recommendations above. Have you been seeking feedback from the companies you have approached?

Good luck. I hope things turn around for you.

 Hey mate.. all the labour

Tue, 2012-08-28 19:45

Hey mate.. all the labour hire mobs require the 2yrs exp cause theyre a broker.. been through that shitloads...

Mines want experience, use your truck licence... have u only got HR or ya got an MC...

They only want it that youve been on the mines b4.. My MC got me an offer at cloudbreak driving the monster Roadtrains, but the cheese n kisses said no.. All because Id been taking trains to the mines delivering shit.. maybe doing a few deliveries for a transport co up north

If ya got an MC I can help ya with a co thats running multi RTs to onlsow daily, they ring me and annoy me all the time(theyre great people), this is the back door in mate, and probably the only door in with no Mine exp... although.. Leighton/HWE do recruit off there own back, and are happy to train 'inexperienced' peepz( I have an old friend(female too) that got scalped from Area C to Boddington for quite the pay rise)

Hey HR is the base licence.. where ya doing ya hotshots too.. If its mines/or to do with mines,  then thats on ya resume mate... (Im happy to help with hotshots for free if ya need a driver too mate.. work permitting).. Boddington is always hiring, me ol mates do all the transport for Terex/Bucyrus.. hotshots there all the time.. bit of bullshit on ya resume about how many times youve been to certain mines will help... Might be able to help ya with a foot in the door for a contractor run or 2... MC will open up other doors too man, and Im sure youre up to it... Dampier is always hiring for the monster salt trains!! Ive got heaps of truck driving mates given mine jobs just cause of there licence..

good luck Ron. sometimes its a case of being in the right place right time. go on holiday up north and call into all the mine sites and offer the boss a fishing trip out .

you could even look into the couple of mines that are south of perth just to get a foot in the door, ok the money wouldnt be as good but its something.

Try Fixed Plant Operator roles

Thu, 2012-08-30 23:46

Your skills could suit those roles. And a lot of them dont require too much experience. Yours would certainly qualify. And up here they are hiring through Programmed Intergrated and Skilled in Karratha. And Monadelphous pay pretty well with the fifo rosters.
