Friday Moore River Bream Bash
Submitted by rickets on Wed, 2007-09-05 16:34
Anyone (h0ju you're included ya bitch!) interested in heading up to moore river (30mins north of quinns) to hit up some of the good sized bream there?
I wanna try and get a crew together to trip up there, should be awesome! Yes I know the weather isnt ideal, its the only time I can get off work (due to weather) but its well sheltered along the river so it should make for some good fishing...
Also the fact that theres no tide in the river, and the fact that the average bream (so ive been told by numerous people) size is like 31+cm so if ya interested, do reply and we'll see if we can organize a carpool before then or something...

13cm? rofl i guess all those
13cm? rofl i guess all those photos on breammaster forums of guys pulling in big 38+'s are all liars.
Nah, fair call, average size at burswood is larger than that... however, ive not heard it from 1 person, ive heard it from multiple people and if the average was only that size, the whole river wouldnt be lined with fishermen all the bloody time, not counting those in the boats fishing every bloody snag for a 25cm if theyre lucky cos the average is low.

Ok chances are due to weather tomorow...
we're thinking of delaying the moore river bash.....
however, we will be hitting east perthish tomorow instead most likely, because the wind is more favorable from that location in the swan....
if you want to tag along, call me on 0416363818
h0ju, sorry dude, we'll hit moore another time when the weather is a little bit better, also, when they have canoes available for hire... they got nothing but power boats till the weekend...
we had spare time today, ended up going today to moore to suss the place out and find some good landbased spots...
needless, to say, we creamed it and found a multitude of awesome landbased snags in about a km stretch of further up the river... cant wait to return...
Tyson landed 11 bream, his PB for for total caught in 1 day and also hit a PB of 35cm!

yeah as for the moore, man
yeah as for the moore, man that place is awesome!
But definitly for the boat, its good from the landbased perspective too but probably good to bring berley and use bait as you can cast bait further, sit it out there for longer (the middle of the river in the channel seems to hold some fricken horses) as using lures landbased CAN be done, however, there isnt really a HUGE stretch you can access easily landbased without either a) falling in the water b) getting smashed by what seems at the time, tropical bloody rainforest (thick scrub) or c) losing your all your jigheads on ground which is very very snaggy - HB's ok, but there simply isnt enough ground to access which holds a lot of snags... need a boat for lures IMO.
Boating is awesome because then for lures, instead of having a small variety of snags (dont get me wrong, the snags look AWESOME and i was getting hits but once they move on theyre gone) but you can just float up to every snag in the river which is bloody long, plus theres islands and dropoffs and channels and snags and rock bars and all sorts of shit the further you go up.
So next time, we're gonna hire the boat. Its cheaper during the week... $55 for 2 hours (minimum) and $25 for every hour after in a 4 man powerboat (5hp?) or a little more for the 6 man boat...
Also, canoes can be hired to fish from (excellent cos its silent) for $10 an hour... only thing is, you wont cover nearly as much ground as you will with the outboard... however, its good to weigh up options.
Definitly gonna go up soon, definitly want a good crowd should be awesome!
As for the swan sherbs, yeah we went down on... friday and sat... hit the moore on thursday.
Friday wasnt too, I dropped a nice sized bream (dammit i need to change my hookup technique with the HB's - too used to bait) and sat was nothing... fished burswood, east perth and maylands and found the undercurrent was so fast and strong, it was pulling the line along the bottom just as if it was a fish, was bloody funny casting one side and within 30 seconds your line was all the way to the other side of your cast.. but ah well, thems the ropes.

moore river fired aye?? good
moore river fired aye?? good stuff . i fish the river plackies and hard bodys every 2nd weekend and let me tell ya the av size bream is 28 to 31 cm the last trip i had endend up with 4 fish over 40 cm the bigest being 44cm . as for the 13 cm av comment i presume you must be fishing baits as the big bream i have found are only interested in lures. i am not a bream master but do assosiate with some of them and they certainly are not liars , mearly just all good blokes that know how to fish very well. good to see you had a good trip rickets and if you keen next time i go with the punt you should jump on board and well go bash some of the drop offs.
cheers brenz

yeah brenz im keen, ill pm you my number.. if you give me a few days notice, ill be able to come up with ya...
speaking of a punt, how much would it cost me through you to source a punt that could hold 2-4 people, with a small outboard, smaller the better....
Im in the market for something small that will get me out into the river systems for some good HB and SP work..
even if its only a 2 man punt with a 5hp outboard or less (aslong as it moves us its good) id be interested in finding out prices...
PM me if ya can help me out :D
