Where are you launching from?

Where are you launching from? I don't personally fish on the bank as I have never done well either. I launch from Point Perron and fish up and down Garden Island on either side of the bank on lumps that I find. When the crays are running, you get an idea on where good ground is due to the numerous pots around but you will always find good ground by sounding around.

It can be hit and miss at times, i was around the same area as you today with only an undersize pinky and (hooked) an unstoppable.
But I've also seen reports where its been going off.
An option to try is anchoring and burleying up, usually attracts some interest even if its just skippy

fish on the outside and look at ground from 20 metres to 35 if you can find small ledges you will do better than large lumps

never had much luck on the 5 but on the outer edgs there is some nice lumps and on the inside you can get some nice fish as well . as mentioned 20 to 35mtrs is a good depth to start. we have mannaged to get fish from sand whiting kg's through to dhuies in that range. half way along the island in 30mtrs there is a nice ledge that has given us some nice kg's to 1kg in the past
