I am buying a ford range to tow my new caravan slowly making my way up the coast from Perth and into N.T then back to Broome .
I have 2 one piece fishing rods 4.7 meters long one is for egg beater and the other one is for a Alvey .
Problem with the ranger the roof rack holder are a swing out type to go acroos the car with the one on the tub slides back to give you length .
I have been looking for away to make them theft proof to lock on to roof rack .
Is there some way to do it or should I just sell rods and buy I think 4 or 3 piece same lenght .
Hope some one out there has had the same problem up for suggestions .
Cheers

Make the rods two piece
It's not hard to cut and install a ferrule

Suggestion?
What about a hose clamp (or similar) ... most opportunists are unlikly to carry screwdrivers or spanners with them.
I was also thinking the lockable tiedown straps (that they use for canoes, etc) but the shortest length is 2,5m

Get yourself a length of pvc
Get yourself a length of pvc tube long enough for the rods. Screw cap one end glued on other then fix that to the side of the van using down pipe brackets. You can fix a padlock to the tube by simply drilling a hole to slip padlock through
