Just a reminder that there are a heap of new rules that took effect from Jan 1.
check out the fisheries website for them all.

just a reminder now the weather is starting to change and we can get our boats out more and more.

Rules
From what I read and see on other sites, some experienced fisho's don't know the new limits.

Maverick think you need to
Maverick think you need to check your glasses when you are looking at photos from other forums. I think I know the photo you are talking about and if you knew the new rules there is nothing wrong with the bag limit in the photo questioned

Snapper
I was commenting on how you are only allowed 1 snapper over 700mm from Two rocks down to Cape Bouvard.
I saw a pic of someone with 2 large snapper caught metro ( they stated it was metro too), and have pointed it out to them and they have removed the pic.
Can you point me to the pic your commenting on??????
I am not stirring any one up regarding this, just that the new rules need to be followed . I wouldn't want anyone getting in trouble with the new regs.

Sorry Maverick
Sorry Mav Must be a different picture my mistake. There was a general feeling that this post may have been directed at certain pics. I agree with you that the rules need to be followed and that not all people are aware of them

Here are some new one's some don't know of
Here are some that some don't know of.
The maximum quantity of finfish – either whole or in pieces –
that you may have in your possession (control/ownership) in
WA is:
• 20 kg of fillets of fish; or
• 10 kg of fillets of fish and one day’s bag limit of wholefish or fish trunks; or
• two days’ bag limit of whole fish or fish trunks.
! NOTE: These limits now apply throughout WA, includingpermanent places of residence. The following baitfish are
not included in the finfish possession limit: hardyheads
(Atherinidae), sardines/pilchards (Clupeidae), whitebait
(Engraulidae), garfish (Hemirhamphidae) and mullet
(Mugilida). Commercially purchased fish are not included,
but you may be asked for proof of purchase.
I read this to be if you allready have fish at home you have to take them into account when fishing so you don't go over your total posession limit .
Also , where is the limit for these Snapper, it says from 2 rocks to Pt Bouvard, so if the boat is launched from 2 rocks and the fish are caught 20km north of 2 rocks can you land them at 2 rocks marina ??? I can't see anything in the regs only you can't catch more than 1 pink snapper over 700mm between 2 rocks and pt bouvard.

Yeh good info Mav, with all the changes going on i even check up before i go out .....they dont make it easy but these changes are certainly required!
That max posession limit wouldnt be hard to get if you go out all the time and keep alot of fish!!!

A lot
A lot of people jumped to the conclusion I was bashing someone elses pic, now they say it wasn't me but I'm a rod holder ( what eva that means) a knob and a $hit stirrer, all on a site I don't go to. A polite question or a PM could of cleaned this up , I havn't been posting on here very much just for this reason, a small minority ruin it for the majority, I have 40 years of fishing experience from Victoria and South Australia all the way around to the norwest I would love to share my knowledge but I can't ( and there are a lot more out there that won't for the same reason).
I have NEVER posted up about a pic unless I see it's a blatent breaking of the rules like the 2 big snapper, if the fish had been caught anywhere north of Lano I wouldn't of said anything or maybe just a post saying good fish or something. ( please note tha I never named the person or the site , I don't see the need to)
You are the only person to ask me about it and I gave you the answer , I can't see how this post is bagging someone on another site. I just think with all these new rules a reminder is good for everyone.
Interdorsal is the measurement between the two fins on the back of the shark .
http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/pub/WhalerSharkLimit/Whaler%20Shark%20Size%20Limit%20Change.pdf
I hope I'm not offending anyone by posting the rules for whalers up..

Hi Maverick, I saw the off limits for the whalers
so I thought I'd put in your post about fish regulations, hope that was okay, as we all thanks to your post should be reminded every now and then about fishing reg's, as it seems lately they are slapping them on willie nillie, so its good to refresh our memories.
No offence my friend. Better to have it from the fisheries site then everybody knows its law.

No problem at all
I have no problem at all with it.
If it helps get the message out there and stops people doing something wrong just because they didn't know then it has to be good.
I think a lot of people just look for the size and bag limits on fish and don't realise that there are boat limits, possesion limits etc etc .
Some people take offence, I can't see anything wrong with catching, eating and taking pictures of fish as long as it's all legal. I take GREAT PRIDE in saying I fish within the laws, just last week I was tossing big Red Snapper back as we had our bag/boat limit of fish .

Thats crazy about having a limit of fillets at your residence...
Haha i havent ever heard of fisheries doing door knocks to check the ol chest freezer!
Crazy times we live in, what if you purchased 20 kilos from kailis brothers and went and had a good days fishing, having said that 20 kilos is a considerable amount of food to keep on hand and the way my catch rates been in WA I have nothing to worry about!
Goooooone Fishin!

Kane I think thats 20kg limit
has been in for a long time. Thats 20kg per person I think and when we catch fish in leeman we leave whole fillet with skin on & wing, freeze so if pulled over by fisheries (which usually is the turn off from Jurien Bay) they can quickly identify what we have caught and your name has to be also on the frozen fish to the total of 20kgs per person. Unfortunately there are people that get their 20kg & limit of crays, sent the wife down to Perth, then come back up and start all over again, so their freezers in the town are empty if asked to open by fisheries (think they have to have a search warrant to come into your home)
I could have it wrong but if its true we have everything ready for fisheries to look at.

Also as of today big whalers sharks are off the list 10/3
RECREATIONAL anglers in WA have been banned from catching big whaler sharks in an move aimed at protecting several at-risk shark species. The new laws prohibit recreational fishers from taking whaler sharks with an interdorsal fin length exceeding 70cm, in the State’s West Coast and South Coast bioregions. The West Coast Bioregion extends from the Zuytdorp Cliffs, north of Kalbarri, to Black Point, east of Augusta, while the South Coast Bioregion stretches from there to the WA border.Department of Fisheries shark scientist Dr Rory McAuley said WA’s new regulations would assist in the protection and, in some cases, the recovery of at-risk species within the Family Carcharhinidae, which all whaler sharks belonged to.“Dusky whalers and sandbar sharks have been identified as being over-exploited in the past and are species that are particularly at risk,” Dr McAuley said.“Because of the inherent difficulties in identification of the various species in the whaler family and their generally low reproduction rates, broader protection is a responsible approach.

Old
Was in the old booklet Mav and got left out (for a technical issue I think) in the new one which is why they had to do a seperate one just for the shark size issue with a new date it was valid from.
