Fish finders….

Have been out of the circle for a bit now..... what's the go with them? I need to put one in the hull before I flip it and can't seem to find one for under 13k now there are about 6000 transducers for 5 different types of fishing. Side scan, down view, 3D, chirp, iPhone compatible and all sorts of other shit. So I rang a few dealers and they all gave me a different opinion on what I needed. Not one of them asked me how I was going to install the tranny or even cared for that.
any ideas on who to go see or what to throw in it? I don't need it connected to my phone or the home TV. And I don't want to run 3 transducers off the transom.

What sort of depth are you looking for Bryce
Furuno TZ3 12inch with a B265LH transducer worth looking at.
1 kw chirp transducer, fairing block mount. Fairing block give a excellent reading under way

Aren't you building a new boat?
If so, and you are considering Mercury Power, then the Simrad unit that monitors the engine that comes with that will do the job. When I bought my Merc I got a Simrad in the price. I don't know if its the same for other makes. Can get a huge range of transducers for the Simrad, and it runs 2 transducers as well.

Yep, Sunshine is on the money, Rhys is the guru. I was ready to pull the trigger on a more expensive set up, he told me that I didn't need to spend the extra dollars, went with his suggestion and couldn't be happier with the result for the sounder. He knows his stuff.

All Marine Services
They don't do installs. He reccommended Alex at All Marine Services, who I was dealing with for some other stuff. My install was a bit tricky, but they nailed it straight away. I haven't needed to adjust transducer at all, and can still read ground at full noise. Highly reccomend.

You have done heaps of fishing ( shallow and deep) I would 100 percent back furuno. I must admit some pictures guys put up of sounder shots from other sounders mentioned pretty impressive . Fishing no different from hunting . Except your weapon is your sounder . I love driving around looking for fish . Gives me a real buzz. Land leads on there heads mint fun .

They say you buy once you cry once.... I reckon I'll be frying for the rest of my life. But like you say they are a lot like rifles. Only as good as the person setting up/driving them. However I did turn my back against furuno and I'm not knocking them at all I just think what I went with suited my needs.

Totally agree with your comments I froth finding new ground. Then you can get into sidescanning and syncing your electronics with you sounders

Lots of good options these days
It all depends on your budget.
Like everyone else I have a personal preference but honestly if you can't find fish these days with any of the current brands it's not the fish finder (assuming proper install and setup).
Screen resolution would be a fair way down my list of criteria when selecting a fish finder. I'd be concentrating on functions and features, integration with chart plotter and other electronics you might have, ability to tune the sounder, availability of compatible transducers, transducer placement and installation etc.
I think Simrad may also have this functionality but one feature with the current higher end Furuno units is that they talk to the satellite compass to provide heave, pitch and roll feedback to the sounder. This is truly a game changer especially for any sort of deeper work.

So I settled on
So I settled on OLEX/Koden/KSE310. Tuned the transducer to make sure it was close to what factory said it was and put it all back in the box and now on way home.
Only went with Koden because the instruction manual has 144 pages compared to the others that only have 40 pages.
garmin had some pretty good combo units for up to 70m water. And others had some impressive features. But wasn't really what I needed.
