exmouth teasers????

well with everyone heading to exmouth soon, well it will feel like everyone , how many people are going to be running teasers and what sort?

personally i run a witchdoctor on the starboard side and a mixture of bird teasers and beer cans on the port side with a skirted lure behind it,

have been contiplating getting one of those spreader bars but with only 2 of us on the boat this year i think it might be a bit overboard so will just run the 2, is going to be some quick work getting them out and the other rods.

whats everyone else preferances and plans for teasers this year, especially with some advice for the guys planning to make there own, i would suggest wire thru the cans, the mono will get cut thru in a hurry with all the tossing and smashing they take in the wash.

cheers

Good thread Matt and yes its that time of year again.

I'm off to Exmouth in 36 hours....who's counting Laughing and i'll be using a mirror Dillfish teaser for pelagics like YFT/mac & wahoo.

As for sailfish & marlin I run 2 surface teasers (one pink and one lumo) with them being made up of soft birds (Richter) & soft 9 inch (mouldcraft) squids. At the end of each teaser I have a soft Oscar (Richter) hookless predator!

I agree the more stuff you run the bettrr but yes ya gotta clear the stuff also....exciting shit!

ran just a witchy over the last two weeks and it seems to raise fish. ALso ran a moldcraft widerange in close on the opposite side and whilst it only hooked one fish its leader was belted up daily so it obviously attracts them.

We ran a 5 lure spread plus teaser with three on board, any more and I reckon it would have been a headache. We did run 6 lures out on a really calm day when we had a 4th person on board, but tuna schools were not much fun with 5 hookups in one instance.

Great thread!

Anyone tell me the best teasers for species other than billfish(Mackerel, Tuna)? Are they really worth it? Never used teasers before. Some tips would be great.

Will watch this one closely.

Cheers

hey wodf, for the mackies

hey wodf, for the mackies and tuna the mirror teasers are normally better, they arent cheap but they do work, you will often see them come thru the spread of lures up to the teasers and have a look and as simon stated on his recent trip to exxy the had this exact thing happen, where the leader was getting damaged, personally i run both a surface one and a mirrored one, best of both worlds

With the surface teasers, is it best to run a few small squids/hookless poppers or something like that behind one of them Richter birds? if so how many and where should they be placed? in the middle of the spread?

thats it mate, squids, beer

thats it mate, squids, beer cans, small skirted lures etc, all will do the same thing, the key to it is to get a big amount of comotion on top, splashing, smoke trails etc, you can put it either side of the boat or in the middle, generally at most 30 feet behind the boat, and always have a lure sitting just behind it tooWink

I am headin to exy in 5 weeks and want to do more trolling then i usally do. I have a surface teaser with a bird at the top followed by 5 or 6 lrg squid and a hookless pusher at the end. I looked into mirror teasers and ended up buying a cheaper one for $60 of ebay to try as i havent ever used one. 45cm long and weighs about 1.2kg, Looks the goods and will find out in 5 weeks!

Fishing isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more serious than that!!!

yeah if its the one i think it is rodrat i used one of them last year, they are ok, i have upgraded to one of the pakula witchdoctors this year, the other setup is fine to use as well, so looks like your set, just make sure you have some decent towropes to pull them as once they are in the water they cope alot of drag, you will be amazed

Stripteaser Dredges are the

Thu, 2009-02-19 09:15

Stripteaser Dredges are the bomb, expensive but very effective, I've got the 4 armed one with a fifteen Ballyhoo in the middle and 6's on the arms, get it weighted right in the clear water either port or starboard and it looks like a school of gars following your boat, run a swimrigged gar just in behind it. If there's enough hands on board I'll put a bird with a daisy chain of poppers off the other side and run a skipper in behind that.

Home made

Have always run a couple of homemade witchdoctor type teasers and found them ok. I think anything out the back - tin cans , feather dusters , old cd's etc is better than nothing but it's hard to evaluate if they work less than the name brand ones. Trying different thing and finding out what works on the day is half the fun and gives the crew something to do between strikes.

Any day fishing is a great day !!
