Dorkers.

Ross Lyon says it may take freo a while to learn his new game plan,i think he may be right its taken 15 years and they still haven't learnt how to play AFL football.......LOL

Ok. I'll bite!!

Over all Derbies winning scoreline : Dockers 14, Eagles 21.

Since 2006: Dockers 9 and Eagles a paltry 5.

I reckon the standard of the Eagles playing has just been proved to have significantly dropped.

Maybe they're only just learning how to play the game again!!

Oh your so funny LOL

Thu, 2012-05-31 10:37

Prior to last year we had a couple of seasons of turmoil where we were battling to win a game. The reasons for that have been well documented and talked about. Smart coaching and recruiting (and a lot of patience) has paid dividends. Some of our best young players today frustrated the hell out of me in the earlier days but they have learned and grown into valuable team players.

It's laughable really to even suggest that the standard of the Eagles play has dropped. If we were to use the derby's as a yardstick for our success in the AFL then that's a pretty sad scenario. Sadly the dockers seem to have that attitude which is why they have always been middle of the road teams. I am proud to remind you that the Eagles have won 3 premierships and have regularly played in finals over the years. The dockers dreams have always been to play in a final. That's a pretty sad fact IMO.

Agree with you vince about some of the kids that have come through I used to cringe when some of those boys got the ball. Worsfold and the match comitee need to be congratulated after sticking to there guns in the wake of a lot of outside criticism-myself included-just goes to show they know better than most fans or media. Save for a disaster in the second half of the season looks like we will be playing deep into September again-can the Dockers say the same ??. Just goes to show you can't buy but need to build a winning team.

Vince raised a point

Thu, 2012-05-31 13:57

I am not a born AFL fan (Rugby born) but have learned to love the game. I am a diehard Sandgroper and follo both teams as my 1st and 2nd favourites in the comp. Eagles first though.

Freo always appear from an outsider to be panicking about getting "there". Drop coaches, buy old players etc. Somehow they just have to get to the top and have no patience. I suspect if they did what the Eagles have, endured some pain, build their team as a young group rather than panicky change (often to their detriment) they would progress. I do hope that they can fix this, because I will yell as hard (almost) for a Freo in a GF as for the eagles, unless its a western derby GF.

2yrs ago we Eagles fans copped a flogging on this site. Wasnt wise to mention you were an Eagles fan. Vince copped it, and Freo supporters where everywhere.

Now I cant be to agro about this because freo is Number 2, but revenge in some way is sweet.

That's right Crasny. The Eagles took the punt on younger players and blooded the accordingly. When some of our second tier players step up they will be a force to reckoned with. One already has in Nickoski he's realized he needed to pull his finger out or he would have been shown the door this year I reckon. They are still building nicely.

I find it very amusing the Eagles fans are so vocal but seem to forget the GF is played in Melbourne not at Subi. How many decent teams have they played in melb this year - 1 for a 10 goal flogging. I know you can only play who they put in front of you but when you beat top 8 teams in Melb then you can shout from the roof tops.

Thu, 2012-05-31 14:47

Eagles have won 3 and played in others. as for the top 8 teams this year, who are they really? Most teams seem to be struggling for consistency. I can see a trend with  Collingwood, Essendon are going well and time will tell there. Adelaide are looking Ok but can stumble. As for the rest they seem to be battling it out for minor placings and will continue to do so.

Just as everyone is praising

Thu, 2012-05-31 15:14

Just as everyone is praising worsfold for sticking to his guns and persisting even though it resulted in a wooden spoon, I hope that those same people praise Ross Lyon when success comes the Dockers way.  And it will come.  Remember in 1990 ish and the bagging that Mathouse got for his defensive coaching style in his early days at the wiggles?  He persisted, and whilst it pains me to say, the wet toasters had years of success throughout the 90s with that style.  Introduce Ken Judge, who was not much more successful than Damien Drum and the wiggles were not much more successful than the Dockers during the same period...  I see a lot of Malthouse in Worsfold's coaching and I see a lot of Roos in Lyon's coaching style.  Roos, along with Malthouse are two of the most succesful coaches of the recent era.  And Lyon has the best win loss ration of any coach with more than two years coaching experience.  Worsfold has done well to get the toasters back from a wooden spoon.  The Dockers last two games have been woeful, for certain.  But everyone go and have a bex and a lie down.  We are still 5 / 4 and only percentage from 7th on the ladder.  The way everyone is talking anyone would think we're tanking for some drft picks (ohh sorry that's the Demons not the Dockers).  To quote the great man Pav, quoting an even greater man Churchill, "success is not final, failure is not fatal, its the commitment to continue that counts".

Thu, 2012-05-31 16:29

I agree with you Randall df6233, apart from old mates' coaching record. I think we have to take his record as 5 and 4 as I reckon Reiwoldt, Gram, Jones, Dawson, hayes, Montagna, Schneider, Goddard, Gilbert, Ray, Armitage, Koschitzke, Fisher, Dalsanto and Blake may have something to do with it being so good. Dockers will have their day in the sun as long as they do what Crasny1 said, have faith in the youth that they have invested in and stick to them, dont try to 'Dream Team' it and buy old hacks to get them over the line.

From my perpective, not so one eyed as some, it would be great to see an up Eagles, followed by a rebuild, during which we see an up Freo. And so the pattern go. At least then I would be happy most off the time seeing one WA team in the running.

Not tank it Freo, but build. Learn Lyons way and the time will come. Not that I am a fan off his coaching.

no your right and how quick that was pushed to the side. Cousins never tested positive on game day so the whole "tainted" premiership is a load of crapola. Plus 1 player doesn't make a team so there was 21 other drug free players out there that day. Speaking of what ifs, what if barry hall was suspended like he should have been in 2005-AFL free pass for sydney- then eagles would have gone back to back 05 and 06.

yes johnson was charged and pleaded guilty, suspended by the club and has accepted his punishment and hopefully moved on, and a premiership didn't hinge on it.  probably hasn't played his best footy since, until this season.  i disagree with the fact there were 21 others drug free in the 2006 wiggles, fletcher and chick immediately come to mind and hunter as well, what about gardiner was he there, or had he been sacked by then?  and i have a few doubts about one or two others as well.  no wonder juddy got outta there as quick as he could.  the 2006 premiership will always be tainted.

So what's your point Randall. Sounds like you're saying the the team was on performance enhancing drugs and that's how they won the flag???Wjo are the others you have doubts about were they actually charged or was it hearsay??? That 2006 team had a lot of good honest talent and played in two GF's in a row. So seriously what have the Docker got show for how many years in the AFL? Honestly a couple of finals appearances in which they were bundled out. Piss weak from an AFL team. They are shite and be true to yourself mate and accept it without defending it with inane comments about the past.

Get over it we all know buddy and cyril and other hawthorn players get on it, does that mean 2008 was tainted...

Tue, 2012-06-05 12:10

My reaction is that i have just got my voice back after cheering passionately for the Dockers on Saturday afternoon, because that is what I proudly do.  My wife's hearing in her left ear is still recovering.

The facts are that the Dockers were not good enough on the day to beat a top four team.  The effort was certainly there.  We dominated large chunks of the game for no scoreboard pressure and allowed the Crows to score easy goals when the ball was turned over.  The lack of score board pressure has dogged us for most of the season.  When we can convert all that possession into goals on the board we will be a very different prospect.

And for the record, I am disgusted at those Dockers members / fans who left the ground ten minutes before full time, and I am disgusted that lots didn't turn up which allowed a large number of opposition supporters in.  What really hurts is I saw a Crows supporter wearing a Dockers membership pass!  Ouch!

How did the Eagles go on the weekend?  That's right, they lost to the team that was 15th on the ladder going into the game.  Just a small hiccup probably, and I am sure I will be reminded of ladder positions and premierships, and all that.  Blah blah blah.

By the way, well done Melbourne.

Thu, 2012-05-31 18:56

My point is, is that a few 'bad' players in that 2006 premiership team have let down their honest team mates, of which i am sure there were many more, by leaving a taint on that team.  There has been much documented publicly about the players I have named that leads me to believe the statement I made.  I accept the Dockers haven't been good enough to play in a GF or win a premiership yet.  But they will one day.  And I'll be proud when they do.  They are not shite, and it is a fact that they weren't the last WA based team to win the wooden spoon.  I didn't start this post which was just a straight out attack on the Dockers and just completely lacked respect.  I have already posted above that worsfold should be commended for the job he has done about turning the eagles around.  How about supporters of other teams just stick to complimenting and supporting their own teams rather than bag the others.  As I have been told before on the forum, this is a fishing forum and perhaps posts about football teams should be posted on football forums.  The Dockers performances of the last two weeks do not deserve respect, but their performance so far this year doesn't deserve the attack that has happened in the media and around the offices this week.    The Dockers will earn respect.  And that is my final comment on this post.

Settle pettle.. You stired the pot mate

Thu, 2012-05-31 20:04

The media now are pointing the finger at Ross Lyon. You distract from that by tainting past achievements by slandering players who were successfull. I don't agree that the media should crucify Ross. It's way too early for that albeit I don't like him LOL. The issue of drugs is something that is a major concern and we staunch Eagles supporters have seen and felt the pain of that. Under current management I would shiver in my boots if I was found out by the current Eagles administration.

The reality is mate that the Dockers have never been disceplined enough to put a game plan together consistently. Let's not blame that on the coaches alltogether... we have seen a bunch of guys there that make their own rules and set up their own buddy groups. Too many individuals and no team.. Then again, maybe we should blame the coaches. They are paid to pull these guys into line. Surely???

Yep no 'I' in team Vince. I'm coaching an under 11 side and we are constantly dragging little buddy groups apart and telling them that. You would think that type of shit wouldn't exist in the upper levels but it does. When a team plays as a team they win. It's plain to see in grass roots footy. Maybe the dockers need to train with the rope zones like the little ones do so they "share the ball" looool

The way I see it, the only way the dockers will earn respect is to actually win a GF and until that day comes they will continue to be bagged at every opportunity. To put it simply they are just not good enough with their current playing group and coaching staff!! Freo supporters better harden up as this is going to be a long season seeing as you won't make the 8 in 2012!

I bite because I am passionate, no apologies for that.  And my first response to this post was a comparison between coaching styles including a complimentry remark towards worsfold, not a disrepectful slating of a team I don't support.  If people are going to comment in the first instance, make it a complimentry comment about the team they support, not a disrespectful dig at an opponent.

Its ok randall, as a one eyed west coast supporter I am too very passionate and bite really easily. I have given up picking on my freo mates. I am now at the point where i feel really sorry for them. the best you guys can come at us is with "drug Addicts, The last to win a wooden spoon in WA". ah what ever makes you guys feel better. at the end of the day west coast won the last derby in WA, we won the last Flag in WA ( actually we are the only team from WA to bring a flag home). We produced 2 Brownlow medalist, 4 Norm Smith medalist and 1 coleman medalist. And seems you guys throb so much over derby victories I might as well mention that we have won 7 more of them as well. Really I do feel sorry for you guys but respect your dedication. Good luck for the rest of the season.
