Dont forget the hopper patterns now!

Now is the time to try the hopper & cricket dry flies. They can account for quite a few trout at this time of year. One of my tricks on the Goulburn River breakaway area in Vic was to catch a few naturals, walk up stream
( along the bank)from where i was intending to fish & chuck a few in. Making a note of the stations where the fish were rising from I would then creep back down & chuck artificials at them with great success.
It doesnt matter with hoppers if your presentation is sloppy because real ones make a splash when they fall in also!
Good Luck!

not a wand fisherman but spent may hours as a young lad chasing trout around those parts.

used to fish the latrobe river mostly but the gouldurn was also worth the trip.

used to use crickets in the hopkins to deadly effect......

long time ago......

Nothings the same here anymore, Hopkins is choked upstream with floating weed, Latrobe very low & now polluted with all the fires fallout. The Goulburn even in its low state is to be piped to Melbourne.
Here in Colac the lake is now a dry pan of fairy grass & so is dangerously fire prone.

I`d rather be fishin`!!!

Purumbete will be open for launching boats soon as nobody has been able to get in for 2 years.(2 low) New ramp after pressure from fishos.
Bullen merri still producing good trout & occasional salmon. They seem to be all Atlantic now.
Murdeduke & modewarri dried up!
Still plenty of bream at glenelg but dont hear much on mullas. Some caught at Barwon heads this season.

I`d rather be fishin`!!!

Oh man, i am itching to get up to some of the NSW high country streams and have  a flick for some trout.  Now that my missus is living in Melbs I am very keen to start exploring the Vic high country too.

Had some nice fish from the Ovens & will miss the wide open wadeable runs & the sheer beauty of the place. Although like everywhere else it`s suffering from the heat.
I remember way back when very long scarves were popular & I was fishing the Snowie just below the spillway & a huge brown came up to engulf my fly. "I am getting cold " she said & proceeded to swing her scarf round & round her neck.
Hell mate that relationship didnt last long after that incident!

I`d rather be fishin`!!!
