Take a read of the fisheries regs and the measurments are there for the pot.

Go to a local salvage yard and get 2nd hand 2x1 jarrah for the main supports and base stringers.

To get the battens you can buy bundles of them from Two Rocks ships chandlers [never bought them from anywhere else] or cut your own,

If you have a small bench saw you can run some 2x1,3x1 or 4x1 down to 3/8 x 1 inch strips for battens,--lots cheaper.Remember to drill the nail holes for the galv clouts or you will split them. The off cuts are used to make the fingers for the neck and again Two Rocks chandlers for the bait boxes and lids if you haven't found enough on the beaches.

What is the new price of an amateurs pot now?

You should be able to make 2 for the price of one and if you're going to have a mate fishing with you even cheaper to run 6 with 2 as spares.

Using an electric soldering iron to brand your floats is another trick.

carnarvonite is on the money ............way cheaper to make your own , and a good way to keep busy in the shed during winter ..........ive made my own full size slattys with steel bottoms for years , there is plenty of scrap material around if you know where to pick it up

pm sent to you ..........as i have plenty of pics on how it goes together ........not hard and only basic tools needed really

best tip is to stop pot thieves by cutting your gear id into the top timber  frames on both ends of your pot .........same as the pros do ....Smile

cheers hezzy
