dickhead boaties!!!!!!!!
righteo just to clear things up this is not a sledge at all boaties just a handfull of dickeads that need to learn a bit of etticut.
salmon fishing at wyadup beach sunday the salmon schools were thin to say the least and very spooky . upon this observation ive looked at the bright side of i have had a couple of hook ups no boats so it cant get any worse........ WRONG! around the rocks comes what i presume is a local at dunsborough as we have seen him there for the past 4 weekends a white boat full of clowns . the first big school comes swimming past so the knob parks right on top of the school causing them to sink and shy right off. the law states that boats must be 500m off the beach there but these guys seem to have found it in there power to sit no more than 50m from the beach and eliminating the little chance we had of hooking another salmon.
does any 1 else have this problem or am i a bit out of line with this particular winge

deja-vu mate!
hehehe.....is that the same boat Brenz we observed last time?
If so, yeh he's got no idea what so ever and made me & many other L/B anglers get the sh!ts on. I can understand a school of salmon moving into/under your boat as that hapened to me recently but yeh driving up to and then right on top like we/i saw last time isnt smart.

Fair winge Brenz!
No Brenz, it's a very fair winge about a complete DH by the sounds of it.
Next time you go, take a pair of binoculars and a camera with zoom capabilitie. Record his number and take a few photos. If other fishos are about, get their names and numbers as witnesses. Hopefully, you can report them to the powers that be and he'll get saughted out.
That's not just stupid, it's completely inconsiderate.

On the subject of rude
On the subject of rude pricks,
I waas fishing my favourite spot on sunday in the river and was fishing for about 2 hours and noticed someone snorkling to my right. He had hold of a crab float and was duck diving to get crabs. All was good until he started to get a little close.
I yelled out to let him know we were fishing there and he stopped and looked at us then head down and proceeded to swim right were i was fishing.
Now what i did next was a bit stupid but im sick of everytime i go fishing having some rude prick either move in on my spot or swim infront of where im fishing. This is the 3rd weekend in a row now of this happining.
So what i did was waited till he swam over my line then reefed back and tangled him up!
What a classic! He stopped and looked at me again! then head down and swam towards the structure i fish against.
I then tightend the drag and tryed to stop him.
It was like fighting a 100kg mulla! I had the uglystick bending hard while he was peeling line out hahahahaha!!!!!
I ended up snapping the 40pound!
He swam to the shore not far away where i went down for a "friendly chat" He got back in the water where i couldnt get to him! Im over rude pricks!

The same thing happens everywhere
I am originally from South Aussie and we had to deal with the same DH's every winter when the salmon were on. We had particular old fella that used to troll up and the beach just behind the breakers, that was until I had had enough and fired a 6 ounce snapper lead at the boat. It landed right in the middle of his dingy and scared the absolute shit out of him. We didn't see him there again for the 2 years after that. I still ask my mates if they have seen him again, and they havn't. Now I know this is not the right thing to do, but it worked and we actually started getting a few fish!

What you do is use heavy
What you do is use heavy line, cast over the person in the boats line and snag up with him. Wind in super fast get his lure in your hands and cut it off!!! I know a guy who lives just over the back of that spot and he does it all the time!

Last time I went salmon
Last time I went salmon fishing there were some real dickheads on the beach.
Lets see:
There was a boat that went over the schools a couple of times
A guy with a gidgie went out into the surf and went straight for the school scaring them out and deeper instead of swimming around them and trapping them in the breakers.
Then some guys on a jetski blasted through the schools
A boat on the second day found the school and just followed them down the coast, chasing them out of the area. I think they were trying to 'catch up to them', but were just stupid ****s. Go around in front of the school to trap them on the beach, and slighty out, so at least all the beach fishermen have a go (and they were keeping the school moving so even they didnt get a cast themselves, but deprived us of many).
Then a large school amassed not too far out, and a boat came zooming through and dispersed them.
. Then another after chasing the school ages down the beach. Then another hookup but I lost it when I jumped when I was talking to the other guy (note: pay attention to line only...).
We stopped to have breakfast, then luckily later the school camer really close to the beach where I caught my first
Couldnt take any more from the school because some idiots on a jetski zoomed through the school. The school actually didnt break up, but it did after a few minutes of the jetskiers following the school. So they knew it was there. I dont think they were smart enough to realise "hey, maybe thats why people are on the beach with fishing rods following it).
Now, I just need to work on my accuracy casting long distances to knock them off, or put a nice dent in there boat.
I think I need to catch some more salmon to make up for it....

I agree
I agree on a couple of counts:
1- yes it is etiquette.
2- I agree with you Mitta about wanting to cast sinkers out to some of these rude, arrogant b*stards but the downside of that is that if you accidentaly put a sinker through someone's skull you will be up before a magistrate and 'he scared the salmon school off' will not get you off whatever charge you are on. Nothing wrong with a few warning casts as long as you can cast accurately.
3- The right thing to do is, as noted above, take their boat number, hopefully a photo and report the bloke. Once authorities have a couple of reports from the same bloke they might take him to task on it.
4- Good on you Marc for hooking up the blokes diving near you. There is heaps of water for everyone and if people cant respect that then they should be hooked, gaffed and used as berley for the next trip.
One time the opposite thing happened to me. I was fishing from my mate's boat in an estuary near a channel marker at night and these blokes walked up to a near by bank and then proceeded to yell out 'oi, get out of the way we want to fish here, you have a boat so go and fish out in the middle, otherwise give us your f.... boat and you can fish from here'. (I have deleted the many expletives they used) These blokes sounded half cut so we ignored them and kept fishing. Eventually after much abuse from their end they cast a line over our boat. We thought we should get out before they caused some damage to us or the boat but before leaving we wrapped their line around the bow rail and took off spoolign one of their reels.
We in the boat would not have gone so close if thye had been their first but we had put in a big effort to catch live baits, berley the area up, etc before they rocked up.

Yeah, well i reckon we
Yeah, well i reckon we should use mortars on them followed by some kind of flamethrower and if they take us to court get the team from Boston Legal to find a Judge that likes Salmon fishing, one hell of a closing statement and she'll be right mate!
I do feel your pain though, my first time ever fishing at Hillaries was me almost getting spooled by some tosser driving his boat 4 meters off the rocks collecting everyone's line. My only comfort was that i'm sure my 20lb braid would have wrapped around the prop and made a mess of his seals.

GusG, it would have been
GusG, it would have been hilarious if the guy was swearing as the line peels off his spool, so busy to keep a proper hold of it, so the rod slips right out of his hand right after the boat.
Most boaties are fine, but like anything there are a few ****heads. Unfortunately you can be more of a ****head in a boat than on land say.

I think
we should put the inconsiderate boaties, inconsiderate jet skiers, car window breaking hoons, stupid scuba divers, etc. together in a jail cell in Port Moresby with the HIV/Aids carrying Rascals.

very suprised to actually
very suprised to actually read this thread tonight ... maybe its just me and im ignorant but i was never aware of a 500m exclusion zone around the wyadup beaches ... i have heard of zones around meelup and eagle bay beaches that are pro netter areas but that is all ... i will have to look it up and make sure im not doing too much wrong ... anyway ... for my 2 cents worth .. yes some boaters can do the wrong thing and cut up schools and be a pain but so can the land based guys .. i do both styles of fishing and have been happy to play with a school of fish to myself in the tinnie and then had people run 300m down a beach to get in on the action - then they procced to try to fly some lead at me .... so where is the etiquite ?? do i try to lob a metal back ?? no i have to move because im the more mobile . i think more people need to learn a little patience at this time of year.

agree feral
*i agree feral, and there is no exclusion on the west coast, only the bay areas, and not to many pple take notice of it,, i go down there sometimes with my family and sit on the beach, throw the rods in,hoping the salmon will swim thru, but when u have a few boats hoveing up n down,or anchored like 30 metrs out on the points its a waist..
guess pple need to respect other a lil more.. a bit of fishing rage is always present this time of yr,thats why i land based during the quiet weekdays with family and head out deep on the weekends..

Alot
of boats come close to shore around Wyadup, mitchells, even the jet skis.
We went squidding/fishing last weekend and when we moved up wind after a drift, I noticed a boat with a dive flag up(quite visible). So I kept atleast 50 to 80M away BUT luckily I was just idling as 5M infront he surfaced(snorkelling). It was hard to see as the sun was directly in front and shining on the front screen which had saltwater stains.... I pulled close enough to let him know that he was too far from his boat and luckily I saw him. He just ignored me and kept snorkelling.
I reackon he was snorkelling for crabs! I thought there was a ban still on in the sound? Stupid nugget!!

You are right Feral
There are poor mannered people on both sides of the fence. But I still think there is a place for etiquette and for people to respect another fisherperson's space. I have run into a lot of uneducated anglers on the beaches and rocks over the years - who see you fishing and decide they have stand almost next to you - even though there maybe hundreds of yards of open space around.
My biggest gripe is the window smashers. The actions of a few cretins mean that there are quite a few really good landbased spots around Perth that you can't afford to fish at night because of the risk of having your car windows smashed.
Port Moresby jail is too good for them. I would send them to Mt Hagen and let them deal with the kukuku's.
