Deep Dropping and bent butt rods

After some advice, recently got an electric reel with bent butt rod. Is it ok to deep drop with the bent butt in a 0 degree rod holder?  I am not sure if the angle would be too great if the rod loaded up? I have 2x 30degree rod holders at the back of the boat but they are not in the ideal position. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

You can...

You can and it will work.

Having the rod level I find is best but as long as you aren't putting too much pressure it should be ok.

Whilst perhaps not ideal I’ve deep dropped with straight butt rods in 30 deg rod holders before. That would be much the same as using a bent butt rod in a 0 deg rod holder. Often the line angles away from the boat rather than being vertical so that helps. Remember electric reels are assist reels and not winches.

If you are not happy with your setup rather than replacing your existing bent butt with an adjustable butt (they are not cheap) perhaps consider adding another rod holder to the boat. That way you can locate it where you what and set it at the preferred angle away from the boat.

I have looked at putting 30

I have looked at putting 30 degree in another location but my gunnels dont have the room for the angle. Perhaps a 15 degree might fit so that is another option (swapping out my 0 degree for a 15). Being new to deep dropping and electric reels I am still learning

Or you could look at a custom drop-in solution similar to a rod rigger. I would be reluctant to use an off the shelf rod rigger. The angle won't suit and they are probably a bit on the light side imo. You want the drop-in to be able to rotate within the 0 deg rod holder. Any metalworker worth his salt should be able to make something up to suit.

Edit: see link, this wasn't the design I had in mind but it will work if it's strong enough.
