Cray pot rigging

Hi guys

Ive never rigged up my own pots so just need some pointers.

1. What knot do use use to attach the bridle to the main rope?

2. How do you secure your floats? Do you just use single knots as "stoppers" or do you actually tie on the float?

3. Do any of you have your floats on a rope separate from the main rope? If so, how do you join each rope together?

I am pretty good a tying knots...but not ones that are easy enough to undo if I need to switch ropes, hence the questions.

Cheers

Brad

I have my floats threaded

I have my floats threaded onto spliced loops on a separate rope - same at pot end (short rope of a few metres with spliced loop).  I have one spliced loop on the main rope and just do a loop to loop connection, I won't say what knot I use to attach the main rope to the loop on the float rope as I'm sure mine is not ideal (but they have never come undone).  I always use the same main rope and just bundle up and cable tie any excess when changing depths.

We call them pot knots for

We call them pot knots for tying the bridle to the main line and a single line to an eye splice. Pot knot is just a double sheetbend. Google it there is some animations showing it

same here i use the double

same here

i use the double sheet bend as below in red for tying the main rope to the bridle and any float ropes to the main line , my addition is i put a knot in the end of the rope before i tie the sheet bend ,
if theres an eye/loop in the rope ill use it if not i just make a bight in the rope

http://www.animatedknots.com/sheetbend/

on the floats i use the commercial cray yellow/black rope stoppers at either side of the float , with a single knot behind them ,this stops the rope know being pulled through the centre of the float even in the heavy weather ,
