Get
Get down the wharfs mate, and meet them when they come in to off load.Or head down early in the morning and Offer to do a free couple of trips out as a tucker run.
Thats how i got my job on the trawlers..with no experience. I know my skippers would not hire anyone over the phone. Get down there with your work gear on. Good luck green horn!

when i was in gero looking
when i was in gero looking for deckie work i used to sleep in my hilux with a big sign on the back saying if they needed a deckie for the day to just knock on the window .. used to get at least a few days a week expecially w/e with deckies being hungover .. after a few months i had a full time spot. and it was good to get out with diff skippers and learn the ropes
