A couple of new builds- flats whiting/soft plastic bream sticks

These are a couple of rods I have just finished building. Both on MHX blanks and both 2 piece.

One is 7 ft 3 in and the other is 7 ft.

Both with the Fuji VSS soft touch reel seats and grey handle kits.

These were built with the new KR guide system.

These guides made me realise how big and cumbersome rods and their guides used to be.

1 of the wraps is a streamlined thunderbird and the other is a fish wrap.

They turned out a treat and Iam stoked with the finish.

They look great! I've always been curious to know how the build is done. Do you have more pictures of the build from start to finish? That would be a good read/look.

They look great, very professional finish. Those micro guides are great with light line if you can tie slim knots

 Hi Barneyboy Rods look

 Hi Barneyboy

Rods look hgood. Can't beat MHX for value.

From experience it is best to use a lipstick metal trim or leave the blank raw where the trim on the handle hood moves nack and forth when install the reel as it will pretty quicky wear on the epoxy.

Phenix do some really nice bream/whiting blanks as well.

takes 2-5 hours to build not including drying time. some take less time, others take alot longer. It depends what work is involved.

These are 2 to 4 kg rods.

I don't have pictures from start to finish however there is/used to be a great mag called 'The Australian Rodcrafter' by Steve Starling and Ian Miller that is a step by step guide and is an awesome reference.

Haven,t had a problem with the winding checks rubbing as there is enough clearance and the tolerances of the seat are good so minimal movement.

Feel free to PM. Ps, not a serious buyer, its on the bucket list but would love to know what im looking at.

or help. That mag is the best thing to start with though. I would suggest starting with a larger diametre blank as the smaller ones can be a nightmare even for someone proficient at it. Look foward to the progress reports!!

Love your work mate!! You must be very efficient to build a rod with a wrap like that in 5 hours. My last Spider wrap took about 4 hours. Mind you I did it with metallic thread which made it painful. I'll have to get some pics and put mine up.

It is a good thing to get into.

When I started building it used to be cheaper to build a rod than buy.

Then it went the other way and they were cheaper to buy that build.

Now I have noticed it go the other way over the last few years where you can build a rod cheaper than buying one off the rack and still use quality components and blanks.

If any of you need a point in the right direction, would be more than happy to help.
