Coral Bay 12th - 19th May

Had a week up in Coral Bay 12th - 19th May. Weather forecast was wasn't the best, but it dropped off every afternoon. New deckie Andrew scored a nice 9kg Red, not bad for his second ever Red. We also got some nice Rankins and Cobia.

The sharks were out of control this year, they seemed to be bigger as we couldnt get any to the boat. Very frustrating as we would get one good fish then next drift fish would get sharked or the shark would take bait. As soon as sharks showed up we moved, but didnt seem to matter as they seemed to be everywhere.

All up it was a good trip, we fished 6 days straight. Was a bit over it by the end... Bloody Sharks!!!!

trolled every morning behind the reef got barracuda, shark mackerel, nice yellowfin tuna and a saily (no Spaniards), out in 100m mark got small black marlin and wahoo, bottom fishing each afternoon in 60 - 70m mark - SHARKS SHARKS SHARKS only landed a total of 5 -6 demersals for the week and lost a heap to sharks, I wont bother demersal fishing next time not worth the anger, its better demersal fishing down here in Perth (cull needed) glad you guys got a decent feed there cheers dave

Nice catches, big rankins.

Nice catches, big rankins. Rule of thumb, if you're getting sharked, move on. Keep feeding them and you're just adding to the problem.
If sharks are there, most likely a favourite spot for other fisherman (charters, shared between fisherman). Last few years, sharks have been no problem for us. Lost maybe a few rigs on the stacks of fish.

Heard of people using shark sheilds on their rigs or under boat, not sure how successful they are.
