Take a couple of deep diving
Take a couple of deep diving red and white Rapalas can't go wrong with those. For bait I'd be taking some blocks of squid. Any local wrasse you catch use as bait.As they say fresh is best.

Hmm basic paternoster 100lb
Hmm basic paternoster 100lb leader minimum. You'll get a mixture of northen and southern species depends where and what depth you fish, You'll need a reasonable sounder to find some ground. But it's up to you , you'll have to make your own luck.

Laserpro 190 Red head white,
Laserpro 190 Red head white, and chrome pink. Dont leave home without them. :)
Alway run a wire trace when trolling or you will get bitten off.
As for a bottom rig. A patenoster rig, 8/0 hooks and enough lead to get to the bottom.

Go buy a "chrome pink"
Go buy a "chrome pink" laserpro 190.
As for bait, squid has always worked for me. Fresh caught baits are always very effective as well.
Pick up the latest coppies of the regs and guides for that region, and be aware of the many sanctury zones.
Above all have a good time!.

the squid works a treat up
the squid works a treat up there, as far as ground goes it is fairly flat . what you need to look for is the small flare ups which is usually fish or a small lump holding fish. south passage is the way to go but you need to take care as it can get a bit hairy if the swell is up. if your not too confident go the north which is much calmer but a bit further to go. as mentioned the basic parernosta is always usefull as long as you go 100lb to 120lb line as there is some bities there and if you get onto the reds they will make short work of lighter line if they engulf the whole bait. we have had them shred 80lb in seconds 6/o or 7/0 hooks would be the go as even the smaller fish have big mouths

snelled hooks. top hook
snelled hooks. top hook through the top of the mantle and then the bottom hook. you want the bait looking natural as possible. we always got our bait in perth but many places have the calafornian squid and not too much diff in price. depends on weather you want to cart it up in a freezer

Coral Bay
Arrived at lunchtime today (see separate report), unloaded the car, had a bite to eat and hit the ramp.
In the water by 3pm and out by 5pm...fished inside the reef near the south passage and came home with a nice spangled emperor and a golden trevally...both taken on a ganged unweighted mulie cast near a bombie and slowly retrieved. On the bbq for tea and they went down a treat.
Got the once-over from fisheries at the ramp and all good....they're just doing their job and if we all play by the rules, everyone will be sweet.
Looking to head out wide tomorrow.

rmg scorpion 190 5m+ diver. also, for the best bottom bouncing bait, dig up the ghost crabs out of their holes on the beach. everything loves them. get a bag full and youll be laughing.
