Cleaning Squid
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2007-09-05 09:19
Does anyone have any fool hardy methods of cleaning squid in a jiffy but gets all those annoying skin bits off? I have a method of grabbing the backbone cartiledge and pulling almost all of the guts out, then make a small cut under the wings which allows for most of the outer skin to be peeled off. But theres always niggly bits left over that take ages to clean. Has anyone got a technique that works for getting them clean easily?

squid
Thought I showed you how to do it that day where we (I mean you) got a few off Hillaries?
I know how to do it quickly and easily but actually explaining it is pretty hard. Will just have to try to go and get some myself and I will do up a vid of how I do it - might help a bit.
Stop catching all my squid by the way - I hope there is some there for when I arrive next year :)

Hi Adam, I found if you give
Hi Adam, I found if you give them a Basic clean at the beach or at Home and them blanch them in very hot water for 10-15 seconds. This normally helps get the skin removed, otherwise, try a old damp hesian bag.
Whats the temp in Exmouth?

Yeah, best way IMO is to get a bucket of sand and saltwater at the beach, chuck squid in, bit of a scrub and it all comes off hey presto, no slimy or gunky bits to clean or pick off.

What about 5kg Cuttlefish?
They are 'REAL MESSY" to deal with on a boat, if you want to use for fresh bait.
Any ideas on the best way to minimise ink whilst dispatching?

If your fussy about getting
If your fussy about getting inked put a funnel on your line and drop the funnel in when you get one then ink can't fly at you or the boat and leave a net hanging over the side to hold them in
