carrot Stix

I am thinking of buy a carrot stix spin rod. Exxy at $400 but are they worth it? Looking at 15-30lb & matching it to a 5000 reel(still undecided).

Does anyone have one? Any suggestions?

Man $400 bucks for a rod !

Does a $400 rod catch more fish than a $100 rod ?

Buy a $100 rod and spend $300  on 7 kilo's  of Dhufish or Red Emperor fillets.

Mate half the price of what you are after delivered and look the goods. Saltiga 17-30lb coast to coast inshore.

Saltiga rods in the shops here are over 500 bucks. Not sure if its your cuppa tea though.

Sounds bloody good i will look into that. Just been looking on that website.

What reel would you put on that. Probably 5-6000? I like Diawa gear but reels are a bit on high side. Maybe that website does reels cheap aswell.

Reckon a 5000-8000  size

Reckon a 5000-8000  size stradic, saragosa etc would go pretty good on that rod. All depends on what you are after I guess.

Not sure if it's what you're after but I recently bought a xzoga MA-S80H2 http://www.xzoga.com/taka-mas.php which is 8ft rated to 30lb. I have a Daiwa Tierra 4000 on it with 30lb power pro. Casts like a dream, haven't tangled with anything of note on it yet however.

Minstor tackle http://www.minstor.com/ sell them for a third of the price you will find here.

I havent got a carrot stix

Wed, 2010-07-07 08:32

But reading about them and the technology they sound the part. Stronger than graphite with the fibres from carrots!!!

I think that they have more feel, more flex and return and should in theory put more hurt on the fish. I would definitely not get one, because they have to be babied because I suspect they are more prone to high sticking, and accidental dings. I am afraid I dont baby my rods/reels. They are there to catch fish not to be polished.

However if that is the sort of money you want to spend then I do believe they are a good technology, and have more (if you can believe it) feel than even the best graphite.

The Rashneeshie Rods, just have to change the name from Baghwan to Bag one.

i got stung with about $300

i got stung with about $300 of tax when i did an order from tackle direct (order price was around $1400) If i had known that there was a $1000 limit would have done it in 2 separate orders. Tackle direct are pretty good to deal with though.

Hey Thrifty

That sounds crap about the tax. That tackle direct looks good. Shame they don't give you the shipping price until you actually order the items. Was your shipping expensive for what you got. Still kept the price well below AU$ cost? Have you purchased rods off them? Saltiga rods are cheap but they sell different types to over here. Don't really know what you are getting. Always good to hold before buying.

Saltiga in U.S

Wed, 2010-07-07 15:01

Just found out that saltiga rods in the US are not made to the same build quality as over here which explains the price difference!

my shipping cost was US$125, that included a decent sized box as well as an 8ft rod tube (bought a G.Loomis Pro Blue for myself and a G.Loomis Mossyback for my mate). I guess this is about right. Another friend of mine got one of those saltiga spin rods from tackledirect. It is an ok rod though dont expect it to be anywhere near the quality of the saltiga rods we get here. A bit to chunky for my liking. I would get the one of the pro blue spin rods for US$260 though that sounds like it is out of your price range.

Tackledirect is awesome for things like lures and braid. The black bart, pakula, rapala and yo-zuri lures are about half the price they are here. I picked up a few of those yo-zuri hydro squirts for US$15 - saw them advertised at bluewater the other day for $42

What about things like Tld's?

Wed, 2010-07-07 22:06

Since you have used our name I think it is fair to respond. You can pick the eyes out of it and use USD without exchange, tax or freight and a different size then post a price of ours in AUD and a bigger size to exagerate but if you look at Bluewaters TLD15 at $159 AUD everyday price versus tackledirect TLD15 $164.45 AUD with tax or freight I think it still may be fair to give your local stores and especially your sponsors a fair chance first.

I might add, most local stores usually give a loyalty discount and have recently noticed Oceanside offering the members of this forum 10% and over rebate for money spent in their store. I think that is very fair, this is all without counting the knowledge and service. If anything goes wrong with your gear what are you going to do? Before you say it "not with lures" why would you take away peoples bread and butter?

Thanks for letting me have a say.

What can you recommend for around the $250 mark for a spin rod of 7', line class 15-25lb ish. Would be nice to get something different to T curve. Got plastics rod up to 17lb. This is the next step up to flick stick baits, light troll & maybe light jig to 100g if possible.
