CALM Frustrations
Hey Guys,
Just thought I'd let you all know to make sure you check CALM's website before travelling to your destination and/or ringing CALM before you go as I have just had 4 mates come back from Peron Peninsula in Shark Bay only to find CALM had blocked all access to the Peron Peninsula. Unfortunaley my mates didn't take the one piece of copper log with a road closed sign to seriously and entered the park only to be evicted a day later.
The question I have was CALM did not publish this on there website and no notice was put on the entry of the National Park were you pay fees to camp. CALM also told my mates that it was unsafe due to the amount of water they had on the Salt Lakes and it was unsafe to enter but yet they entered to evict them aswell as stating that local fisherman were still allowed to enter the area.
My mates also recieved a $100.00 fine in the mail today for going through the road closed sign but were not told of the fine when they were asked to leave.
Has anyone here had any similar incidents with CALM that they wish to share as my mates are thinking of going to Today Tonight....

Nope
I posted up on the site the week before last that it was closed, being a new member you probably missed it. I spoke to a DEC officer whilst I was in Denham for the fishing fiesta and he made it obvious to me that it was closed and I couldn't go into the National Park. He told me I shouldn't bother hiring a 4wd because I couldn't really go anywhere.
This might have been a different story if your mates went into the park, got bogged, nobody knew they were there and well, who knows what may have happened, guess they would have been on the news instead of today tonight... Just something to think about..
Cheers,
Adam

I realise that they
I realise that they shouldn't have entered just it's a big cost when you plan a trip like that only to get told that it's closed.
I hear your comments though!!!

The floodways
Most of the northern floodways still have water in them after the rain we had in February from the cyclone. I had to spend two extra nights in Canarvon not being able to get through the highway trying to get to Exmouth in April.
When I flew down to Denham two weeks ago the whole coast still had heavy water lying around. Take it the guys didn't check in advance? :)

Nope, But that's the guys
Nope, But that's the guys for ya! I got a phone call from them when they were in Nanga after they were kicked out. I think they are more concerned that it cost them $320 worth of camp fees that CALM wouldn't refund and the fact that there was no signage to say it was closed on the notice board were you pay your fees.
Guess they will check next time!!!
