Bug / Parasite

G'day guys,

Out of interest can anyone provide me with some information of what this is. It came out of one of the Ruby's mouths and was about the size of your palm.

Cheers in advance.

Sea Lice

Sat, 2019-02-02 09:48

Sea Lice,, We used to call them. Look like the same animal, when we were crayfishing out over the shelf. Millons of them, they would wipe your bait out in a matter of hours when they were thick and all you were left with was clear bones. We always joked about how if the sharks didnt get you out there the lice would.

Bum bugs

Sat, 2019-02-02 17:20

Bum bugs are another nickname for sea lice. You don't have to be out in deep water to get your craybait eaten by lice, when demersal netting if you set over sandy, weedy bottom around the new moon all your fish and sharks would be hand bags, complete skin with bones rattling inside, not a skerrick of flesh left on them

Called bum bugs because any new greeny was told that if you worked barefoot they would crawl up your legs and into your bum and eat you from the inside out, to check they had to regularly insert a finger and have a feel to see if they were present. Always brought some good reactions.
